Coffeehouse - WP 7.8 - It's here and how to get it

Wow 12 seconds is quite a bit of time.

I still think that this rollout has been handled poorly. MS did not really announce the rollout started, they have not been specific on which carriers/devices are getting the update nor have they provided status updates. Most of the carriers are just as bad. Calling Carrier support and HTC support have yielded nothing. This is a huge fail of the platform. I still do not even have the dissapearing keyboard firmware update that was released last January. Carrier intervention with updates blows. MS stopped thier gird and the blogs about who/when/where long ago. Feels like customer gets screwed again.

Microsoft does not do thier update grid anymore nor did they announce what devices are getting the update.

Letting Carriers into the update process screws everything up.
Coffeehouse - Just switched from WP7 to iPhone4S

To the OP who said MS should have gone the one phone route why? Why should the OS vendor tell me I do not want a hardware keybaoard (Venue) , or a pull out Dolby speaker (Surround) , or large screen (Titan). As a consumer I like that choice vs Apple saying here is 16 gig model here is 32 gig model pick one. That is lose for the consoumer.

As for apps I have about 30 apps installed (not counting games) about 8 of those I use regularly mostly the weather, USA Today amazing for keeping up with the news one of the best non game apps on the platform, 4TH and Mayor ect and that just fine.

I am fine with IE 9 not supporting XP as XP was released in 2011. My issue is what have they done to IE 10 that makes there be no chance it will run on Vista SP2. I have a real beef with this certain things in the OS should not be directly tied to OS release schedules given how long machines linger in houses and organizations.

Maybe this would be a good question for a C9 open question interview as they did before IE 9 was released?

Also I agree with:

spivonious wrote

My favorite is when using IE8 on XP and browsing MS sites, popups appear that tell me to upgrade to IE9.

Someone cant put some browser sniffing to say if XP and IE8 dont offer IE 9 download really.

I have a 25 meg FIOS connection at home, and youtube is almost never good for me, it usually takes me longer to load a video than it does to watch it, the buffering part way through the weird reset glitches should I choose to watch at a resolution higher than 480. Also you only got the pre update not the actual nodo update?

Some sources are saying currently its only avaible for NON Carrier branded phones. Telus already said they will start the update on the 29th and could take up to 4 weeks for all phones to get it. Have not heard or seen anything from other carriers.

Cmon AT&T, move at something faster than the speed of slow.

I hope its not true, we all know how bad microsoft is with naming, they wont use an independnt name they will fold it under something else and will have - Music for Windows Live 2011 with enchanced media support, or Xbox Live Music, Entertainment store for windows or something just as bad.

The Zune name is fine and device is great. The issue is lack of internationalization, lack of decent marketing, lack of app support on the device.

The device is beautiful and the terga chipset is still a great platform. The software really makes the music and social sharing of music the centerpiece which is great.

Lack of internationaolzation The HD just launched in Canada but only thorugh the Zuneoriginals site. The Zune insider podcat hinted the music store could be coming to canada a couple of weeks ago in thier podcast but if the current rumor is credible it appears it was just to dump some stock potentially which is really dissapointing. and the rest of the world no hardware avaible at all. Great piece of hardware noone can buy.

Marketing - No real marketing campaign to speak of pretty much says it all.

Lack of apps - Its great that all 30 or so apps are free but many users want lots of app choices, not opening the app store to third partys is fail. Many people buy ipods for the apps just as much as the music.

We dont know which carriers are pusing/not pushing the pre update, they did not explain exactly why Samsung phones had a much higher failure rate than other phone brands to point that they temperarily pulled the update for Samsung Devices. Just really wanted to hear new information as oppsed to a conformation of what everyone already unoffially knew from people like Mary-Jo Foley, Long Zehn, Raphel Rivera, and Tom Warren.

Coffeehouse - NoDo is Coming Today ?

According to Mary Jo Foley MSFT France says second half of March now. This is a complete and utter disaster, can I get my money back and get a diffrent phone? Many people bought into the platform with some degree of good faith that updates would bring some of the more obvious missing features and with greatly reduced carrier/phone vendor control the updates would come at some reasonable timeframe.. Now it seems Microsoft cant do anything right.
At Mobile World Congress Microsoft said First two weeks of March, well we are halfway through week two.

The pre-update it appears is being held back by vendors like AT&T, as I cant find a single conformation of anyone on AT&T acutally getting the pre update, this is just ludicris. Whish that Microsoft would come out on thier Windows Phone team blog and just tell us what the heck is going on, instead of being all hush hush. Also what did Samsung do to thier phones/firmware that caused then to have a much highter failure rate for the pre-update than other vendors, so much more that the update was pulled for a few days only for Samsung hardware.

Link to ZDNET artical:

http://www.zdnet.com/blog/microsoft/microsoft-france-says-windows-phone-7-nodo-to-arrive-in-the-second-half-of-march/8888

Coffeehouse - C9 guys/gals don't walk around with a camera anymore?

I guess it's their right, but I can't believe there is nobody in those teams that want to talk.

I am very much with this. I am dying to see a media player and/or zune team interview. I had requested one way back in 2009 and I know there was a lenghty thread this past summer to try to get them on. http://channel9.msdn.com/Forums/Coffeehouse/470880-Media-Player-team

Its so dissapointing some teams choose not to embrace the C9 community. They could get alot of feddback from this community.

Now if only the zune team could figure out a way to successfully market thier amazing HD device. I got a buddy at work to buy one to replace his aging ipod by just showing him how great the zune software is and the fact the device puts out 720p througyht the dock.
