David Anson, Senior SDE in the Silverlight controls toolkit, and

This first release includes: DatePicker, TimePicker, ContextMenu, ToggleSwitch, WrapPanel, and a GestureService you can use on any Silverlight App.

Inside Windows Phone #07: Meet Some of the People Behind Windows Phone

You probably already know that the final version of Windows Phone Developer Tools was

shipped today! In celebration, we decided to walk through the corridors of Studio F (where most of the devs, PMs, and testers are), and talk with a few of the people who are behind this great release of Windows Phone and the Tools. Meet Tom Christie, Jorge
Raastroem, Thomas Fennel, Charlie Kindel, Abolade Gbadegesin, Akhil Kaza, Anil Dhawan, Peter Torr, Bruno Silva, and Luke Nyswonger, just a few of the many folks on the Windows Phone team.

Special thanks to our camera man Michael O'Neill, who had to chase Jaime and me through Studio F while carrying all his equipment.

Inside Windows Phone #04: Using Push Notification - Part 2

Since Windows Phone doesn’t allow 3rd party applications to run in the background, your code can’t listen to or poll the Web for updates. However, Windows Push Notification Service overcomes this communication issue, making it possible for Windows
Phone devices to receive Push Notification Messages even when applications aren't running.

Join Jorge Raastroem, Program Manager in the Windows Phone Application Platform team, and Yochay Kiriaty, Senior Technical Evangelist, as they describe what push notifications are and how they work with Windows Phone Push Notification Service.

Behind Windows Phone Tools for Developers – The Emulator

While Silverlight and XNA Framework enable developers to create new and innovative applications and games for the Windows Phone (WP), these are just sets of libraries. In order to complete the development experience, a set of powerful tools is required.
Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows Phone is a free express version of Visual Studio tailored to the Windows Phone. It includes Visual Studio Express to write great software, but more importantly for our purposes, it also includes the Windows
Phone Emulator, which allows you to test and debug your application without even having a WP device. This enables you to create your software with high predictability and ease.

Join Amit Chopra, Raghuram Lanka, and Mukund Bhoovaraghavan from the Windows Phone and Tools team, and Yochay Kiriaty, Senior Technical Evangelist, for a tour of the internals of the Windows Phone Emulator.

Windows Phone Push Notification Service provides developers with the infrastructure to support sending notification messages to a Windows Phone device even when their applications are not running, in a better conservative manner. Since Windows Phone doesn’t
allow 3rd party applications to run in the background, your code can’t listen to or poll the Web for updates. Windows Push Notification Service was created to overcome this communication issue by enabling developers to send Push Notification Messages
to Windows Phone devices even when their applications are not running.

Join Jorge Raastroem, a Program Manager in the Windows Phone Application Platform team, and Yochay Kiriaty, a Senior Technical Evangelist, as they describe what push notifications are and how they work with Windows Phone Push Notification Service.

This is the fourth and last screencast about programming the Windows 7 libraries, and it is not really focused on libraries, but a different topic related to Windows Shell and Windows Explorer.

This is the six and last screencast in a series of Windows 7 screencasts for showing developers how to use the taskbar to Light Up their applications on Windows 7.

Out of the box, the Windows 7 taskbar provides support for tabbed thumbnails. For example, when Internet Explorer uses tabs, they show up on the taskbar preview as if they were regular windows. Cool as this functionality is, it doesn’t come for free. As
a developer, you need to manage these tabs and make sure they appear on your application's taskbar button. This screencast shows you how to add tab support to your application.

Windows Animation - Advanced Topics

Smooth animations are fundamental to many graphical UI applications. Windows 7 introduces a native animation framework for managing the scheduling and execution of animations. The animation framework supplies a library of useful mathematical functions for
specifying behavior over time and lets developers provide their own behavior functions. The framework supports sophisticated resolution of conflicts when multiple animations attempt to manipulate the same value simultaneously. An application can specify that
one animation must be completed before another can begin and can force completion within a set time. The new framework also helps animations determine appropriate durations.

You are welcome to join the Paul(s), both Paul Kwiatkowski and Paul Gildea, as they dive deep (real deep) in to some of the advanced topics of the Windows Animation Manager.

This is the third video in a series of videos about the Windows Animation Manager. The first two videos are:

Windows Scenic Animation Overview,
