Coffeehouse - What's Channel 9 at 9?

Yes I am a long time niner.

I was a FTE employee at Microsoft for 5 years. Since 2010 I have moved to a smaller, leaner, faster, company working on Application Lifecycle Management (www.imaginet.com).

I still check 9 regularly and I hope the nine team continues the great work.

I just miss the unscripted days of Robert Scoble and Rory.

I'd love to just have the nine crew hit up internal events and interview employees UNSCRIPTED/UNEDITED and show the real, passionate, people work at Microsoft in many different areas and locations.

I like the live feeds...but I'd love just to watch "Jay Leno Jay Walking" content such as asking employees when they get out of their cars, "What are you thoughts about the death of Silverlight? What makes you want to make the next xbox?", and then hear the lower levels explain their actual views. Would be fun...and again it would follow the original charter behind why Len created channel 9.

Again keep up the great technical content but I'd love to see more human stories...

Coffeehouse - New Fuggly W8 logo

I think you guys are missing the point on the flag. Windows is Microsoft's flagship product.

After reading the Steve Jobs book about how much Job's cared about the NeXt logo and how much time/money(Millions) they spent focused on the logo I have to think Microsoft probably spent the same amount of time and effort(in today's dollars tens of millions of dollars).

The only downside to their current design is look at these two photos, which feels right today...but tomorrow will feel out dated. It's incredible to think how long the flag has been around (since the early 90s) will this new metro logo stand the test of time.

Only time will tell...

Which do you think consumers intuitively know is 'Windows'?

Interesting to think the Windows Phone logo will have to change now too for future versions.

Here's there current logo? What will the windows phone 8 logo look like?

I really think the new design costs BILLIONS of dollars in brand recognition....but with all of the efforts to change brand perceptions maybe this could be worth Billions...we just don't know...but it's new and it sure is different.

For all of you color fans

Coffeehouse - Another Softie Leaving - Michael Swanson

Mike's been a great guy here on channel 9. I hope he finds a great new career.

From his blog:

"After 11½ years at one of the greatest companies in the world, I've decided to leave Microsoft and rejuvenate my entrepreneurial spirit. My last day in the office is Friday, September 30, 2011.

Thank you for subscribing to, reading, commenting, and e-mailing me about what I've written over the past 8 years. I've thoroughly enjoyed "talking" to all of you, albeit in virtual form. It's kept me grounded and in-touch, and your feedback has helped shape a lot of decisions at the company, especially those related to our PDC and MIX conferences.

Over the past 8 years, I've written 392 posts. You've left 3,227 public comments (I didn't track the number of private e-mails, but it's a lot). And according to our blogging platform, you've contributed to 10,273,373 total views. Wow!

I've setup a new personal blog at http://blog.mikeswanson.com, if you'd like to follow along. Or, you can see what I'm up to as @Anyware on Twitter. Either way, I hope that you keep in touch.

Take care, remember to take big, bold bets, and whatever you do, improve the world!"

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/mswanson/archive/2011/09/27/moving-along.aspx

Seems like all the good folks are finding better stomping grounds these days. http://minimsft.blogspot.com/2011/09/friday-friday-friday-microsoft-company.html

Every time you respond to this thread the CPUs of Microsoft's massive datacenters have to be used...which entails several additional bunnies being killed.

Not to mention the fact that most niners are reading this thread on Vista machines...and from this thread we all know what that means from a UI problem....more e-waste.

The problem is compounded by the the fact that most niners use IE 7.0 which I hear kills a puppy evertime a new tab is opened.
