Shutting down the taskbar can be done easier by holding Ctrl + Shift + right click taskbar -> Exit Explorer

About Looking at browser history:
It's certainly possible that a virus can redirect you to spam/mallicious/porn websites that you don't want to visit and they will show up in your browser history.
