i've been on about this before but..

Can you please sort out the RSS feed for channel9? Why doesnt all content show up in it? from time to time i go look at "All content" and there is always a bunch of stuff in there that does not show up in the feed..

Really guys, making an rss feed is basic stuff..

If the current feed is by design, can you atleast provide diffrent feeds with the option to get all content?

xaml is not for managed apps any more though.. native xaml apps have been spotted

i think we'll see more in the day2 keynote

i think i can be pretty cool, silverlight had focus areas that arent really needed for the deskop:smalldownload size, cross platform considerations, but for winRT you want to max out the utilization of the hardware

i think silverlight and willl phase out and be replaced with winRT, but its all xaml so its not a huge jump.wpf willprobably stillbearound for though heavy applications like VS, but we'll see... perhaps even better would be if winRT encompases wpf functionality as well

it deffinatly looks like the WinRT xaml stack will be the stack for windows phone in the future..

what happens if you fo into the taskbar options where the startmenu settings used to be? whats in there now?

its just xaml/html so i guess we can do whatever for games and stuff like that you'll probably want to branch out a little bit. there are some very interesting sounding sessions about directx too that im going to check out

im going to blow out my work laptop for win 8, its going to be awsome [maybe not my main machine just yet though]

remember guys that this is pre beta stuff, you'll probably be able to run on VMs with later builds, and people will probbaly find a win hack to do it now as well

its all ready happening.. webapps are already trying to break out of the browser chrome. this is something google is pushing as hard as anyone..

again, im not saying the web technologies will become irrelevant, people have massive investments in those, im just saying the actual browser window wont be [and isnt] the only viewport to the internet

really apps are the new web pages, except with completly opaque implentation details[could be xaml or html on webkit, moz or ie] 

all they do is communication over sockets in a standardized way (like ws or http) kinda beautiful if you think about it

sure thing boss.. for like the 15th year in a row microsoft is well on their way to becoming irrelevant, presumably to be replaced by macs and various linux dists.

as cbase said, what is going to become  less relevant is the browser window. not the browser engine per se, but the browser as a discreet application that you run.

for years we've been seeing apps take the place as the premium way to deliver content on phones and tablets, and win8/chomeOS will push that trend even further, and will both include some os specific libraries that will break cross platform. but that doesnt matter, if there is money to be made, people will rewrite their apps

i think tomorrows keynote will make alot of these things much clearer, it seems like microsoft is always putting the developer stuff in the day2 keynote. the last two pdcs both had [boring] azure stuff on day one and devdiv stuff on day two

i might agree that parts of .net and silverlight will take a backstage to win8/winRT apis such as directUI and the network stuff, but that is pretty much transparent as far as i can tell

we'll be using a diffrent namespace and reference some other dll for some stuff, thats all.

well ive been writing complex wpf apps for xp for a while and they worked just fine.. perhaps it works better in some scenarios than others

yeah, js might work, but css sure wont.. input fields anyone? and even if new browsers are getting better at standards, old one will be with us for a long time, especially on phones

certinly for windows 8 apps developed using the web model will not work anywhere but in win8, so the cross platform argument seems a little weak

yeah.. in theory.. all those platforms have their own quirks and so does all the browsers (yes even ff and chrome) so its not really the case that you can write the app one way and it will work everywhere.. you almost can though.

sounds more like a hardware issue

if you need a external framework to write html apps for mobile i woudnt really call it "native" but whatever

who cares really, time will tell. now we can choose whatever model we prefer when developing for win8 and i think thats pretty cool
