Coffeehouse - Ack! I think my computer's motherboard is overheating.

This sounds exactly like the capcitors next to the CPU. If they are not properly shielded (the copper wire wrapped around them), they emit such sounds. I have seenmore and more of the high end motherboards just putting huge amounts of copper wiring, and
some are seeming to use other mehtods now, I think it may be a ferrite core, but I am not sure. I am NO EE, so if an EE is on the board I am sure they can explain it more, and what altrtives to the copper may be.

Coffeehouse - Goodbye Office 2007

I use Office 2007 VL Enterprise on a laptop and on a desktop, it is CLEARLY much fater than 2003 dreamed of being. I really like Office 2007 a lot. It is clean fast, and it saves well and in many formats using save as.

Long live Office 2007! Works 8...ha!

Not sure if you realize this but for quite some time now Works has been based on Word 2003, it simply has a highly ANNOYING template set that runs on top of it.

So even if "most windows pcs" came with work(not true in any regard) it would not have what you have.

Ahh... I just stopped by neopoleon.com to check in on my old friend Rory and found the ASP.net error page. I host a bunch of sites on a dedicated server at 1and1.com running Windows 2003 Web Edition for $109/mo. I think Standard Edition is $150/mo.
1400 GB/mo is way more than the 30GB I've been using. Only complaint I have is that if I ever needed to host a major traffic site, I would have to go elsewhere to get redundancy, SCSI and some other stuff... But I'm satisfied otherwise.

Coffeehouse - Will Vista Volume License by on MSDN

Interesting, I could not get my VL media from my VL MSDN, like you I see all the others. But I was given an eopen login and it has access to the Volume License Download Center, it is like the MS download center but interestingly it has a java based file
transfer manager, that is blazing fast! (after a few pauses and reconnects)

Coffeehouse - Vista RTM

are you able to download it yet? For me the page is super slow and only showing Office 2007 VL Media.

It is odd too, it seems ot be MS Download Center style, instead of resumable MSDN style I would expect.

Anyone here have opinion on the new Volume License Downloads site?

VL site has a new special download center, that is so slow it is down. I think that means it is like MSDN all the servers trying to sync or being swamped by those people with VL accounts!
Eopen just gave me the link for it, before it also slowed to a crawl

It is listed as:
Windows Vista - KMS

VA 2.0/KMS - Volume Activation 2.0/Key Management Service: this key will be used to enable a new service in your environment that will automatically activate Windows Vista computers. You must have a minimum of 25 Windows Vista computers connected together to
use the KMS, and all computers will be required to check back to the central service twice per year to stay activated.
