Coffeehouse - WINE lockout

For starters this is nothing like that. Also, Larry Osterman has an interesting explanation about that MSDOS issue at:
http://weblogs.asp.net/larryosterman/archive/2004/08/12/213681.aspx

Long story short: Windows relied on and modified a lot of the data structures in MSDos. Any Dos clone would need to be a Perfect clone or Windows would fail. So requiring MSDos made sense. Their mistake was trying to hide that fact instead of being open
about it. Too bad they didn't have Channel 9 back then.

And that's bad, because...?

And it's not even true. Watching the C9 videos they always ask the developers what tools they use. Most of the time they say they use managed code where ever the can.

So the original poster was still full of crap about it not being a single system license. It's just easier to break the agreement with the Mac and steal the software. This isn't a problem for Apple because of the small install base. If they get up out of
the single digits, economies of scale will start to take over and they would see some benefit in an activation process. Do you really think they wouldn't do it if it was in their best ($$$) interest?

As a side note. XP isn't restricted to one system either. I've upgraded my home system 3 times now still using the same boxed version of XP Pro. I removed it from the old systems so the license is valid. I still just have it running on one system.

My first reaction was that it looks neat but it is still over priced. Instead of dropping important items like the monitor, mouse and keyboard they should have just reduced the price of the imac or even the emac.

People seem to like shiny things though so I'm sure it will sell. One thing apple knows how to do is market so more power to them I guess. At least they aren't forcing people to pay the Apple tax this time with the one button mouse.
