Tech Off - File associations and unknown file extensions

Presumably this also explains XML files. If you have an ordinary XML file from somewhere random, it'll probably open in IE, but if you have one that was created by saving an Excel spreadsheet as XML, then it opens in Excel again. Or at least does on my machine...

Coffeehouse - Vista UK Developer Launch

Originally I was just going to post aking who's going, but then I thought I should point out a post on Ian Moulster's blog. Apparently attendees to the physical event will all get free copies of *either* Windows Vista Ultimate or Office 2007 Professional...

http://blogs.msdn.com/ianm/archive/2007/01/09/software-for-launch-event-attendees-physical-event.aspx

Oh, and people who follow the online webcasts at the same time get entered into a draw for the possibility to win one of 1000 copies of Vista or Office. Finally a free software offer we in the UK can take advantage of.

Are we all happy now?

Tech Off - The Ten Foot Experience for XP Pro Presentations?

bstevens2 wrote:

The easy answer: get a LCD tv, their cheap and you can easily read 1024 pixels from you couch.

If you really want to control certain (task specific?) windows applications, you might want to consider replacing the default windows shell with another windows shell. The default windows shell simply isn't built for less then 640x480 (task bar and such).

If you want media center functionality without XP MCE clean install, try mediaportal.

Of course, hopefully Vista's settings for changing the display DPI should hopefully help with this.
