The most fundamental postulate of Libertarianism is the protection of citizens life, liberty and property. These basic rights are repeatedly affirmed in the fundamental Bill of rights of US constitution.

People also want world peace, but you have to temper your expectations. In order to generally have all of these things, each of us has to give up some liberty and property, and some individuals even have to give up their lives.

To the extent that these rights of citizens have to be protected, a strong police force and justice system are fully favored by even the most limited government proponents.

So you agree that government is a necessity, and it follows that government needs to be funded. You individually don't get to decide what level of funding is necessary. Tough *. End of story.

The last I checked, your life, liberty and property are not safe in Somalia.

When a conservative talking head on TV points out that in the US, ~50% of the population doesn't pay any taxes, they are attacked by liberals who point out that while they don't pay any income taxes... they still pay payroll taxes, sales taxes, property taxes (either directly or indirectly), fuel taxes, cigarette taxes, etc... and yet here when liberals are up in arms about big evil corporations don't pay 'any taxes'... the even meaner conservative is attacked for pointing out the anger is over specifically income taxes... and that still a huge amount of taxes are still being paid in many jurisdictions... just not as much as the liberals would like.

Your complaining about the lower 50% of wage earners not paying any income tax is like a billionaire complaining that dahat doesn't have to pay for a hangar to maintain a fleet of business jets. Paying income taxes is a problem of having earned income, and that should be a problem that corporations have to deal with just like I do, as somebody who doesn't happened to be in the bottom 50%.

Rand Paul and his Paw are batsh1t crazy. They think getting rid of the IRS is the solution for everything. The thing about the tax code is that it wasn't always so complex. It's the nutters that want to do away with the tax code altogether but can't that fostered loophole upon loophole to get their cronies in big business tax breaks for the most ridiculous crap. That's the reason why we have a 70,000+ page tax code today. In 1913, it was 400 pages.

However, I'm not exactly sure that the drop in web server market share can be tied directly to the release of ASP.NET MVC.

I don't understand the point of luxury taxes. Having money socked away by rich people is bad for the economy. Encouraging rich people to spend increases the opportunity for others to benefit from the flow of money. Not to mention it increases sales tax revenues for the local economy.

Granted, if the purchase of luxury goods only works to shift money back and forth between rich people, that's not such a good thing, but my guess is that there are some $15/hour workers who played a role in manufacturing that Rolls-Royce or Bentley or Maybach.

OTOH, raising corporate taxes encourages corporations to reinvest to grow revenues organically, since they get a tax write-off. Then this happens, the money circulates to other companies whom said company purchases products and/or services from or to hiring more employees.

When it becomes easier to make money by just having money, that's when companies just sit on their asses and think of more clever ways of just retaining what they earned.

I do have to say Unity sucks *. I can imagine it being more hated within the Linux community than Windows 8 is within the Windows community. But why did an entire new distribution (Linux Mint) have to be created to replace something as simple as a UI shell? It seems like a lot of effort to maintain a fork that is still largely based on Ubuntu.

With Windows 8, you can install a very simple program to get back almost all of the look and feel of Windows 7. You don't have to install a fork of Windows 8 to achieve this.

Let me rephrase. Even if those responsible for programming the vehicles were junior programmers as skilled as a typical script kiddie, I'd put more trust in the programs not failing than I would put into teenagers refraining from texting while driving, talking while driving, drinking and driving, checking out chicks/dudes while driving, etc.

I'd trust the programming of a script kiddie over the driving of a teenager holding a mobile phone.

I imagine that once prices come down on these devices, more and more people will consider purchasing touch-enabled PCs, even as a novelty. I think eventually people will consider touch a requirement rather than a luxury. Then and only then will these older computers that still run perfectly fine start being replaced.

Touch-enabled PCs is a paradigm shift that might take some time to take hold. 20 years ago, a lot of people were fine not buying Windows because a GUI wasn't considered a necessity, and DOS worked perfectly fine. It wasn't until Windows 95 that people started replacing their DOS machines en masse.
