The 9 Guy Around The World - C9 at Akershur Castle

Here is C9 at Akershur Castle in Oslo Norway. It was really windy that day so my C9 photo ops were few and far between. There were a couple times where he almost ended up blowing away. My advice, when in Norway, bring a coat that is good with the wind,
get an Oslo Pass to simplify travel in the city, and ALWAYS carry an umbrella

Coffeehouse - C9Park: Zoon ;)

I almost bought a Zune today but then thought that I have seen a couple articles, posts, and blogs that suggest a new Zune might be on the horizon.

Is it? Should I wait for the next Zune? I will be ultra-frustrated (mainly with myself) if a new one comes out a couple weeks/months after I buy mine. But then again, I am fairly unlucky when it comes to new technology purchases.

Thanks for any info,

Coffeehouse - What Zune 2.0 needs to beat the Ipod!

Is there a Zune development kit? That would rock! I don't own a Zune yet, but want one. I think a Zune SDK would be really neat. Does Zune run on the .NET Compact Framework?

I think two things that would be really awesome would be an SDK, and compatability with the XNA framework. My vision would be to use the wireless networking capabilities to be able to play multiplayer games where you can import music from your player to be
the background music of the game.

From what I've seen of the Zune it could be pretty awesome, but I have heard the UI for the desktop app is pretty "lacking"

Coffeehouse - Vacation

8/20 (i.e. next week) i'm heading to europe for 2 weeks. I'm starting in Ireland, heading to Norway, then out to Iceland. I'm super psyched about going! I have my C9 Guy all packed and ready to for some awesome photo-ops
I have to give credit to Virtual Earth, I planned the trip by starting in Dublin and seeing where else there is around it that looks really nice. So using expedia (for cheap air fare) and VE (for locations) I planned my trip.

Coffeehouse - Is being a developer enough?

I know it is not exactly the topic but I think coding skills need to be accompanied with other various skills to effectively craft usable and intuitive applications. In this manner I think it is very important to have a wide range of experiences and skills
to draw upon. I teach karate as a hobby but find myself utilizing principals I implement to teach karate in how I write application walk throughs.

In my development shop (and I'd wager in others) you can tell the developers who are code focused and those who are looking outside the code for how to make a great application. The code focused applications tend to be kinda lifeless and not as intuitive for
users. So I think having a plethora of outside skills makes for better coding/development as a whole.

Coffeehouse - Calling webservices from JavaScript in IE and FF

jsampsonPC wrote:

Does anybody know of a good resource online that demonstrates how to call webservices from the client in IE and FF...I have only found IE-only examples that wouldn't work in firefox, and it's almost frustrating enough to make me want

Here is an
AWESOME book on ASP.NET AJAX which I'd recommend to use in this situation. Professional ASP.NET 2.0 Ajax covers the various topics in ASP.NET Ajax or as I've been calling it lately ajax.net just because it is shorter to type

The authors provide a great overview from basic Javascript skills to how the Ajax networking features work. They have some sections dedicated to web services that taught me how to implement them from me not knowing really that much about JSON and nothing at
all about implementing Web Services via Javascript.

Hope that helps. I've been really in to this technology lately so if you have any questions let me know, I might be able to help.

Coffeehouse - WiiWare enough to scare XNA?

I don't think competing is the correct term. I think the big difference is in what you are trying to get in a game. If you want to do a game that has amazing graphics, then go XNA. If you want to play with the Wiimote go Wii-development system. I will
be doing both. I love the XNA stuff and am very excited about where it is going and maybe in a couple releases getting involved in accessing multiplayer online stuff.

I am excited about Nintendo releasing an XNA like product. Is there a link to get more info about it?
