Sorry, but I went all last year without having to de-kruft/de-worm/de-virus/re-load' any of my PCs (I have 3 machines, 2 Workstations, one laptop) at home.

Oh yes , there are the other 25/30 machines I look after at work all running IE6 and IE7 - .... nope never had to 'de-kruft/de-worm/de-virus/re-load' any of those either ...

Reasons ... Firewall active and properly configured, AV installed and kept up-tp-date and most importantly getting users to not run as administrator the whole time. The last one is the killer and the one that takes a little work to get used with XP to but it's worth it. A developer friend of mine encouraged me to do this after he test ran for 3 months (using IE ... ) without any AV installed and never had a virus issue through running at lower privilege. He just ran AV to clear up the file system once in a while.

I'm not going to get into a which Browser is best argument/debate, use whatever browser you wish, from my experience how you configure you machine and your modus operandi has a greater impact on your computing experience than any one piece of software. But I'll thank you to stop rubbishing the software I have chosen to use, with veiled insults about those who you assume are intellectually/technologically inferior to yourself as in: "Heck, who uses IE? Oh, yes the thundering herd of elephants and children. I once thought Grandma HAD to have email."

I'll check out Google Reader as it sounds cool and I like their stuff, but do us all a favour and cut out the snide comments, people are far more likely to take notice of your advice if you do so, after all I assume that you post on here to help people out ... right?
