  • Wow, when did Autodesk take over the world?

Autodesk have allot of really good technology, and very smart people. Not to mention the dedicated user base.

Not only really good technology, it's THE best out there. It's pretty much the industry standard. When it comes to designing/prototyping stuff it works great, for me at least. I've only done smaller things with it like designing and sending it out to a CNC and that was a breeze. They've got some pretty neat programs like Viz, Inventor, Electrical.

Adobe is moving** into this space with allot of 3d capabilities built into the Photoshop CS 3 (extended) and Acrobat 3d.

I wouldn't be overly surprised if Autodesk made an offer for Adobe or collaborated with them on the 3D part sometime in the future.

  • Serenity Best Sci-Fi Film Of All Time ?

One movie I think deserves a top 3 spot is Equilibrium. One could argue that it's a clone of 1984 but it's still a great story. The world it portrays is not that far off as one might think and that's what makes it superb sci-fi. It's also filled with amazing footage and wicked fight scenes, gun kata ftw. Smiley

Was looking around their portfolio, mostly looking at Autocad 2008 and something hit me. They totally dominate the high-end visualization market. They have everything in that field, ranging from mechanical design to 3d rendering.

Not only that, but they have also bought the people who make plugins and renderers for their stuff. I'm totally impressed, that's the ultimate in capitalism. Aw man, if I could go back in time 10 years and pick up some of their stock I'd be a rich man now. Smiley

  • Oh My! Apple Market Share Declines!

I miss the old days when "PC's" and Macs weren't competing on the same turf. Back when different systems had different target markets. You had Macs for high performance media work such as layout, design, photoshopping and audio work. You had Unixes for multi-user, serving and research. Finally the "rest", being picked up by Windows.

Now everyone is fighting over the same piece of cake and that sort of bothers me. Use what you like and does what you need and be done with it.

Am I like the only one on the planet who dislikes Firefly and Serenity? Apart from a great intro song the series' junk, it's too western clicheƩ for my taste.

Now Farscape, that's an awesome series. Well the last 2 seasons were a little too "weirded out" for it's own good, but apart from that it kicked booty. Nice story-line, awesome characters and a nice "perspective" on itself.

OMFG! How insanely awesome is that? :O

All the neato things you wanted to do as a kid after watching Bond, great business idea.

  • Technet

I was looking into a technet subscription a while back, I chose not to go with just for that reason. Apparantly every license you get from there, be it Office of Windows, expires the day you choose not to renew. I'm guessing it's because they're not "proper" licenses. Technet is for testing and development, getting full-blown retail licenses kinda negates that.

Don't take my word as absolute truth though, I'm no lawyer. I only read through the license fairly briefly when considering it. From a laymam's point of view it looks like unsubscribing invalidates it.

    Edit:

PS I'd gotten a technet license a long time ago if I'd known that I could keep the licenses even though the subscription's expired. I'm a free-lance developer with a very uncertain income, I didn't get it because I wasn't sure I'd be able to afford renewing it. Was better for me to just got with standard retail licenses.
