So, can anyone assure me that IE10 in Win7 still uses Cleartype?
If Cleartype is always off in IE10 like it is in Win8 then I'm not going to be able to use it.

No Cleartype = my eyes watering within a few minutes of using it

That's exactly the same breadboard as I got very recently. Did yours smell like mothballs really strong when you first got it?

I'm very new to this and just messing with basic stuff at the moment so I haven't tried an kind of "duino" anything yet.
If I did I would be more interested in using it for making MIDI controlling devices and maybe some sort of MIDI to CV converter.

That's great. I love seeing people experimenting with things like this. More people need to start creating instead of just buying gadgets and consuming.

I'd rather have the Surface Pro. There are things I've wanted to try for a while on a touchscreen that would be easy to do on the Pro because it can run all the software that's already out there. If I got an RT tablet I would have to wait for someone to write an RT app that does the same thing and there's little hope it'll ever happen.

I don't see much happening with RT any time soon when it comes to being able to anything other than content consumption. If you want to get anything done you still need "real" Windows.

I'll have to wait for good reviews and detailed specs to see if it's a good ultrabook as well as a tablet. I'm concerned about the low amount of RAM it has and whether the onboard sound works well with ASIO4ALL.

I guess you just have to keep asking questions to the viewers so they have a reason to comment.

I've never commented on a Youtube vieo but I comment all the time on Channel 9 because it's a smaller community with real forums.

Youtube is just for videos.

Yes, the iPad vs Surface add is really well done but notice that the iPad is being used to create music while the Surface is just playing music.
In other words, we need serious tuch enabled music creation apps for Windows RT/8.

I already know about Jordan Rudess' apps that should come out soon but there needs to be lots more AND MIDI in and out support on all of them.

It's amazing we even have a Staples anywhere near where I live. I've never seen a Best Buy. They'll have some more before the special price ends in January.

Great extra information... that was going to be my next question.

I was wondering if it would disable to registration of the previous OS you're updating from. I'm glad I didn't do it with my Win7 DVD because I'm still using it. Once I get the upgrade disk I'll first try using an XP disk I don't care about. I guess I could also use my Vista disk because it's not like I'm ever going to use it again.

I actually went to Staples twice already and they didn't have any. They also only had one touchscreen Win8 machine but it was password protected so I couldn't even try it the way it was meant to be used.

It's great to see this kind of app in Win8 running with usable latency.

I like the new setup with Paul in the little box on the left.
For some reason Paul seems to have gotten more informative now that he's doing the show remotely. Maybe it's because he has less distractions.

I guess when I actually install Win8 on something I'll have to come back to this post and test it all out.

I'm sure that when Win8 officially shows up even more people are going to be using the old tools they're used to and just assume that Win8 is worse for music apps than Win7 was.

I've been reading that the regular tools for measure DPC latency don't give useful results in Win8 anymore because of changes in the OS. Getting low DPC latency is EXTREMELY important for all music making applications which always use ASIO and extremely small buffer sizes.

Are there any tools for doing this in Win8 and how can they be used to determine the cause of any bad DPC latency?

For example, I have 2 ethernet adapters on my motherboard. If I use one I get very bad performance in professional audio applications but if I use the other one everything settles down and works fine. I would have never been able to troubleshoot this if it wasn't for Dpclat.
I see that something named LatencyMon claims to support Win8 now but I'm not sure how useful it is.

iTunes and all of it's associated background process is one of the worst things you can install on a Windows machine. It's like they made the Windows version purposely bad which pretty much makes it malware.

When you use the Favorites Menu (the one in the Menu Bar, not the one with the little star icon in the top right) it does disappear after you right-click/delete an item.
I can't say this annoys me because I rarely delete stuff from it but I've always preferred that favorites menu over the one in the top right corner.
