When I was using Microsoft tools, they use to say that about VB.

SL fans were busy FUDing the entire world including Microsoft instead of just pleading with Microsoft to truly open dotnet/Silverlight.

Its the same here. Instead of pleading with Microsoft to stop suing linux/android, which i have a feeling will solve this issue, WP users are busy tarnishing Google. Good luck with that.

In answer to your question, if all of the clever things that Microsoft made aren't very clever and you cannot do useful things with them, why doesn't Google stop giving Microsoft lots of money and make clever things themselves?

Either Microsoft is doing all of the clever inventing for Google, and so Google should pay Microsoft for all of the scientists making clever ideas, or Google should spend all of that money making their own clever ideas instead of paying Microsoft for the clever ideas that Microsoft made.

Now the world has seen Google's plan:

1. Copy Microsoft patents
2. make products
3. Profit (usually it's the last step, but wait)
4. Google employees have so much spare time due to this plan, make them create things like http://mashable.com/2013/05/14/type-atari-breakout-google/

Just as I was about to post a thoughtful reply addressing your post I suddenly caught on to this. I read it a few times, forming bigrams and trigrams with the sentences around it, trying to find any sense of self-referential irony. But I couldn't find any.

I begin trying to establish a decision tree of some sort that from your perspective would end up with running Linux on Hyper-V given a feature vector of known inputs. But I couldn't find any.

I would say ASP.NET MVC was a response to the exploding popularity of MVC design in stuff like Struts, RoR, and Django.

The list of RoR-inspired tools is quite long... I wouldn't hold that against MS

And I can't really think of any tool using that naming scheme (most of them are ports of Java stuff) that was actually made by MS themselves. NAnt, NUnit, NHibernate, NDoc, etc., they were all third party projects.

Anyway, it's not as if there isn't a metric crap-ton of tools you can use to write web-applications on Windows. Hell, you can even write one in Notepad, as so many people here tell us so frequently. That's the whole point of the web, right? 

These tools (yeoman and grunt and sass and haml etc.) are build tools. They are important. If it was 90's, Microsoft would have created nyeoman, ngrunt, nsass and nhaml

Valid patents, that Android manufacturers recognized and licensed. It's a perfectly fine business, especially since it's not like Microsoft is sitting on these patents without producing anything similar... I can't see where the "trolling" is, in this cases.

Sure what Microsoft is doing is kosher, after all Microsoft would not do anything illegal. You know, there is a saying: it's kosher but it stinks.

Watching the following video it hit me. Tools are being developed that are working only/mainly on macs. I remember Scott Hanselman talking to Paul Irish about this and it sounded a little pathetic. Something along "Scott: Windows is 2nd rate when using grunt, yeoman and friends. Paul: Ah, yeah, sorry".

Sure you can setup cygwin on Windows, but it's a hassle.

Now the only hard part is choosing the right libraries and modules out of hundreds if not more available.

Brendan is the guy responsible for JavaScript, and currently is Mozilla's CTO. If you belong to the web-stack FUD-ers camp I guess you see Brendan as the men who ruined the world, or at least held back the web for generations. I see Brendan as an accidental famer (sp?) who invented a "good-enough"(tm) if not a great language (lambda and closures certainly move move needle towards a great language comparable only to scheme back then). Don't forget that Bill Gates was pushing VBScript at the time . JS is a weird language with many pitfalls, which are known and documented, and the fact that we all agree on it means the world.
