If you go by the past tick-tock approach Windows 8 should be a major version. 2000 was major and XP cleaned up the mess. Vista was major and Windows 7 cleaned up the mess. So skip windows 8. Windows 9 is the one you want.

We use Forefront on our systems. It doesn't have to be complex. We have it installed the same way we would have installed Security Essentials. Each machine stands alone with no central hub.

We have Kinect Adventures of course and Ubisoft Your Shape. The "Your Shape" game has problems remembering me and when you start an excercise course it doesn't let you know how long it is goingto be or alllow you to set the length.

Unfortunately, Visual Studio Professional is offered on DreamSpark...not Ultimate or Premium.

Don't feel bad. We are Microsoft Certified partners and we also only have access to Professional.

what that has to do with your issue?
Maybe some form of resource contention between ie8 and my winforms app. Maybe the Intel driver handles it better than the one that ships with Vista.
