I just tried using the new bloggin function in word 2007. Pretty cool I must say.

However when i try to actually publish the post to my blogger blog, it gives me a msg saying 'the information sent, including your username and password might be visible to other users'.
Is there any way to tell word to use secure http to publish posts or are we stuck with the usual http?

Coffeehouse - Weird Flip 3d behavior - bug or 'feature'

Well then maybe i have 'special' version, but i can guarantee the windows are not popping back up for me unless they are 'not minimized' , ie are the back of some other window.

Also, I dont know whether this too is happening with you or not, but with firefox 2.0 if i minize it and do flip 3d, half the time (not always, but half the time) I see that instead of the firefox window, just a little title bar with the maximize/minimze/buttons
on it and no client area.
I dont know whether this is a firefox or flip3d bug or feature but this is happening.

Flip 3d seems to have this weird behavior, if you minize a window and then switch to it using flip3d, it stays minimized.

Now that is just crazy design. after all the whole point of using flip3d is to 'switch' to the window you select, if you have to 'unminimize' it by clicking on the taskbar then whats the point of it.
Yes, i know this is not a bug, this is a feature but someone care to explain me why?

Coffeehouse - Weird problem with external monitor

Thanks for the detailed explanation

I have been thinking of least expensive possible ways to solve this.

How about connecting my laptop to a docking station and then connecting the vga output to the docking station. Can it possibly have any effect?

Having said that, the power brick is not the only part of this setup that uses switch-mode power supplies. Inside your laptop, there will be separate ones for each of the 12, 5 and 3.3 Volt rails, and one for the CPU core voltage. In addition to these, there
will be one or more directly related to the charging of the Batteries, which might be the source of your problem, too. Then there's the switch-mode power supplies within the Monitor, etc.

Hmmm... but if it was any of the other components inside the laptop, then disconnecting the power brick should not have had any effect on the display, while currently as i have previously said, disconnecting the laptop from the power supply makes the display
run fine.

RichardRudek wrote:

Your probably getting a "beat signal" due to an interaction between the Power Brick's operating Frequency the Display's horizontal rate.

So if your monitor supports it, try changing the vertical refresh rate, which in turn changes all of the other related timings, including the horizontal. ie For Win XP, 2K or 2K3, right-click Desktop, Properties, Settings tab, Advanced button, Monitor tab,
Vertical Refresh.

The problem should go away using DVI as it's a digital output, but you never know.

It doesnt support changing refresh rates. Anything above 60hz starts distorting the image.

Thing is my laptop doesnt have a DVI output

Also I notice that the wavy lines appear only on certain colors like dark gray/blue.
They dont seem to be there when seeing a bright color like White.

Edit: It turns out my monitor only has support for DVI-D so any of the vga to dvi adapters wont work either

Coffeehouse - Weird problem with external monitor

Not sure if this is the best place to post this, but here goes anyway -

I just bought and connected a 22" monitor to my sony vaio laptop.

Now although it works fine, I notice that when i connect the power cord to the laptop, the monitor starts getting these very faint wavy lines. Sort of like water. They are more prominent against a dark background.

However as soon as i disconnect the power cord from the laptop, the monitor becomes fine again.

The vga cable and power cord are right next to each other.

Why do you think this problem is being caused? Is there any way to correct this?

Coffeehouse - Installing Vista without formatting drive

I have 2 NTFS partitions. I plan to do a clean install of Vista side by side with my xp installation.

However the drive i plan to install to (D: ) already has quite a few files on it. Is it possible to install vista on that drive without formatting it so that I dont lose all the files on that drive?

I read somewhere that this is indeed possible in Vista if your partiton is already NTFS formatted. Is this true?

Coffeehouse - When is Visual Studio Orcas expected to be released?

I really like the LINQ stuff in .net 3.0 but using it without a proper IDE is a pain.

I am just curious as to when can we expect the final release of Orcas. I know no dates are final yet, but even a highly rough estimate would do.

For eg - Is it before/after june or around march only?

Coffeehouse - Goodbye Office 2007

I was pretty excited to install Office 2007 myself.
But the first time I created a document with it, it crashed.

Now I know there is crash recovery stuff built in, but guess what each time i recovered and tried to save my document, it would crash again.

So i tried to create a new document and paste all the text from the previous document into it to save it, but guess what that would crash it too. It seemed to have a certain disliking maybe for what was written in the document

Eventually I had to retype the whole thing again just so that i could save it

I even tried using the new blog posting feature in word, and somehowit doesnt seem to work with the latest blogger beta.

And the speed, dont ask me about it....

If this continues i will have to switch back to office 2003
Firstly, almost everyone says that upgrading from xp is a bad idea and i should do a clean install. This is not an option in my case since i have a lot of programs installed and i dont want to spend an entire week backing up and reinstalling them again.

My laptops config is -
Core Duo 2 ghz
1 gb ram
ge force go 7600 (128 vram)
5400 rom sata hd

The vista upgrade advisor says it will have problems with my sound card and bluetooth.

Will this setup give a reasonable performance with Windows Vista?

I have heard from a lot of people that Vista is super slow and that the nvidia drivers are way too buggy right now.

So with all these comments I am a little afraid to go ahead with the upgrade.
What is your opinion?
Out of curiousity, where are the "negative reviews" from?

Here are a couple of them -

This one in channel 9 itself -
http://channel9.msdn.com/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=258159

This one doesnt look too good either -
http://arstechnica.com/guides/tweaks/vintagevista.ars

On the other hand, I would love to see some positive reviews of Windows Vista
