I am at the end of my rope and don't want to do the semi annual pave job on my dev env.
I am getting sidebyside errors when I attempt to work on a Silverlight or WPF project in VS2008 RTM or SP1 ( I have uninstalled and reinstalled these items already)

The problem manifests itself with the designers showing loading... esc to cancel, and never showing anything else.

The applications will run just fine its just the designers have stopped designing.
My installed set of expression (BLA BLA BLA) has also stopped booting up.

The errors I get in the application event log point to my C++ runtime stuff being farged.

However nothing I have read about and tried seems to be able to get this stuff happening again

I get simillar events in the log when I try VS 2008 and when I attempt to open the xaml file in expression.

VS does not bomb its just does nothing (Untill I exit VS then I get the bomb)

I read about removing KB925955 ( I thing that was the number )
It did nothing

I removed and re-installed all the VC++ runtimes
Nada

I removed and reinstalled the VS2008 RTM ( It failed in the exact same way )
I then upgraded it SP1 (same thing)

Everything else about VS is working just fine in facat If I wasn't working on WPF and Silverlight I would not even know there was a problem

Please someone tell me I dont have to zorch this thing entirely and spend the time setting all the Crap installed/patched/configured again...

Log into Channel 9 and get all manner of warnings about the cert for

*.majornelson.com is invalid

I reject and the site seems to come up but everywhere I go on site the same thing happens

What Gives? anyone know?

On my vista dev machine I will often come back from it being idle for a bit, to find that its severely thrashing the hard disk. There is nothing usually running in the machine at these times. No virus scanner scanning, Sql server Dev 2005 not SQL servering anything. Just some system task launching multiple threads each one writing perhaps 2-3 hundred megabytes a minute to disk. This goes on for perhaps 20 mins or more then stops...

Anybody have any insights..

Resource monitor screen shot below I caught this with 4 threads all wacking away at my laptop encumbered drive bandwidth.
