Dell hardware.

Dell's Studio XPS 8000. The i7 Intel core processor helps run the machine smoothly and quietly. The 1TB hard drive should be enough room for all my programs, pictures and video.

The entire tower is nice and compact and weighs about half what my last computer weighed.

The dell key board is a little compact. Or maybe I just have large hands, but I don't think that is the case. Until I get used to this key board I think Ill like a little larger key board.

Software and OS

Manufacturer installed Windows 7 home premium and the thing ran from boot up. Every thing seems to be plug and play from additional external drives to my side winder joy stick and canon inkjet printer. Even the internet ran with out having to put in some install disk. Very easy set up.

Interface is well designed with hints of artistry. the only thing I would change would be the color over the x button to exit a window. I think red is a little dramatic. I would like to have seen a yellow or orange. red just says "stop" and some times a person really does want to close the window.

I got rid of the dock on the interface. I am accustom to having shortcuts placed directly on my desk top and I don't need this doc thing to tell me where to put them. I am not a mac user, I don't need my hand held. I did look at a mac but they were so over restrictive they made me feel like I had to fit into a cookie cutter mold to use one.

IE8 is running just fine. I have two tabs set, each running ether google or bing as my primary search engines. kind of a neat thing I could do.

What I am amazed with is the compatibility of windows 7 and that it runs all my old software. Adobe CS2, Office XP and so on. Windows and the i7 Intel processor opens aps in a flash.

The personalized Aero themes are a family favorite. lots of fun art and games. The sounds for Windows 7 are kind of pleasant as well.

This is the first time I have looked at an operating system with admiration towards those who have built it. With windows XP and Windows 95 I never gave it much consideration. I hope my windows 7 experience continues to be an enjoyable one.

<evnet:views>192</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/509151/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>As stated on a different thread my video card burned out on my 7 year old computer. I thought I would upgrade to Windows 7 from XP and buy a new computer...

(note: not to be mistaken for “intelligent design”)

the number of universes just boggle the mind. :)

in reply to George Smoot shows stunning images of the Universe

<evnet:views>1206</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/444310/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>First watch the video. (as soon as it goes to You Tube ill post it here) http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/george_smoot_on_the_design_of_the_universe.html Is the Universe intelligent? [Idea for a Project, if someone is REALLY bored.]

Solution needed:
Migrate paper medical records to electronic medical records (EMR).

Back Ground:
There are thousands of doctors and millions of people who have their medical records in files on paper. This leads to costly up dates and insufficient use of resources. Such companies like Microsoft and Google have built applications to change this. Microsoft has built Health Vault to facilitate a way to create personal EMR’s. The challenge being that the majority of people are not inclined to place their information on line. Meaning they aren’t coming in droves to sign up individually and doctors are reluctant to change from a system they know and work’s for them to a new way of doing things. The challenge currently is with the aging baby boomer generation. The baby boomer generation didn’t grow up using computers but have recently been introduced to them over the past 20 years. These might be considered slow adopters to the EMR but those who are currently in most need of it. This may be a lost generation to the wide spread use of EMR’s.

Solution:
Build a scalable social networking platform that encourages X and Y generations to incorporate electronic medical records. Some technology that might be included in later iteration contains such things as artificial intelligence. Starting with a “chat box” able to help find and diagnose ailments. Personable interface technology using a simulated health care assistant. With an ever increasing shortage of Primary care doctors there will be even a greater need for the Privet Care Kiosk to aid patients.

in reply to Idea for a Project, if someone is REALLY bored.

<evnet:views>969</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/422955/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>Solution needed: Migrate paper medical records to electronic medical records (EMR). At least not when I think what could be done with it and in light of something like This. (as pointed out on channel 10.)

The united states is 10.1 Trillion dollars in debt. The US dumps more than 500 billion into national defense each year. That looks like half the budget on the chart. *(actual budget being 3.226 Trillion) What would happen if say just a tenth of that was put into diplomacy? I’m not talking about giving the money to other countries but what if the money was put into educating leaders on diplomacy? We might not have to build so many guns.

Then there is the education problem in this country. Education is allocated a meager 59 billion dollars per year. Like I said, 40 billion doesn’t go far. If government actually believed that the children of today are tomorrow’s leaders wouldn’t you think they would be allocating funds to their education like they do to their military? So let’s take just a fraction of what is spent on all armed forces and give our kids more resourse to do more with. I would at least double what is given to the national education fund.

We really want to preserve what we have got here in the United States but big military is and was so 80’s, now its about ideology and the merging of Judaea Christian societies with Muslim and many other faiths but more importantly cultures. This takes education and understanding.

I say this, because I’m a us citizen who gets up every day and goes to work and pays my taxes. I also vote. I hope Obama reads Channel 9. :)

How would you alocate the budget? am i off my rocker? ;)
Edit:* actual budget included.
in reply to Death and Taxes

<evnet:views>1327</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/402437/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>They say its the two things we have to do.
40 billion apparently doesn’t go far. Right now we humans ‘appear’ to hold the keys to the evolutionary track for computers. We seem to want to try and make them like our selves. But what if they were able to evolve for them selves? Are there people who actually work on this?

Second: Is it possible for a human mind and body to be used as an automated theorem prover? I can think of several situations where you would want to proof a decision in life where you would like to know if your decision or the line of code in life is going to work before running it. Take for example a war time scenario where you plug in all the numbers and strategy. Another situation is global warming, what is really happening to the world in relation to industrialization. You would wish to know the out come before running it (taking course of action) wouldn’t you. We have computer simulations that do this kind of stuff but what do we use when the simulation or the computer is not equipped to run an accurate simulation? Simulations into social variables that so far cant be predicted by a computer. Has there been any work done that incorporate the human mind to evaluate and surmise a situation that is to ‘complex’ for a computer model?

in reply to far out computer questions

<evnet:views>1230</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/400649/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>First: Is there work being done on the automation of computer systems where computer systems write and build them selves? What is the price paid when an item is consumed? I have been reading this article in wired and wonder what take niners might have on it? The big example given in the article is how on line ads have made many on line services free. But do we pay a price by subjecting our selves to those ads? Adds that heard us like cows to particular watering holes. Ads that some one has obviously paid a lot for. Ads that we ultimately pay the price for just by having to look at them.

Grass is free right? Animals that eat grass, they get it for free. For any one who has seen the movie the lion king knows that we are all connected in the circle of life. The animal eats the grass, the animal gets eaten by another animal that later dies and turns to dirt and that dirt helps the grass grow. But what ever you think, all things are connected in some form or fashion. Like a leaver that once one side is lifted the other side is fundamentally moved as well. in this sence you cant get something from nothing.

So my thought is. That maybe by making every thing free, we are actually giving up something ells in for its return. I just want to know what that thing is. What is the real price I am paying when I get all my software for “free”. I guess it takes peoples work to build something like software, many hours, and many cups of coffee, missed daylight from sitting in an office all day. Then by sitting all day, people get out of shape, medical bills rise. on the good side of things. maybe the price we pay is something we want to give up.

But lets not all be tricked into thinking you can truly get something for nothing.

in reply to the price of free

<evnet:views>766</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/261362/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>When is free not free?
