Coffeehouse - Visual Source Safe 2005 versus Subversion

I use SVN for all my new projects, but haven’t converted my CVS projects over.

The crowds that be that use free version control systems seem to all lean toward SVN from CVS, even the ones that lead toward commercial apps still put cvs on the far side of what they want.

The nice free IDE integration is what did it for me. (ANKHSVN)

Coffeehouse - Advice on a Media Player

I have a X-Drive Pro (vp-3310), which is a handy external laptop Hard drive enclosure. It has USB connectivity and 5 in 1 card reader. I have an 80gig(75gig) hard drive in it. Search for it on NewEgg.com, very reasonable for what you get out of it $210.00.
It can even function as a MP3 player but it doesn't have an in song fast forward/rewind.

I bought this so that when I am out and about taking pictures I can download them off the memory card, but it does qualify in the group. The other disadvantage of this config is that has the harddrive platters spinning around in it, so jarring and dropping
is a strict no-no.

Coffeehouse - Extreme Laptop Problems

Calling them should be your catch all.

I was getting the artifacts at the BIOS Post before the rest of the OS started to flake out.

Not useing aftermarket parts or additional parts doesn't strictly save you.

If you are outside warranty I would still suggest trying to find some compatable hardware to swap out and test with. You can even get a conversion cable to plug the small form factor Harddrive into a desktop IDE connector if your laptop stops booting and you
need data off it.

Coffeehouse - Extreme Laptop Problems

My Laptop had similar issues a few months ago. The problem was a faulty stick of ram that I had added. As the video used shared memeory with the main system it was very aparent in screen artifacts that quickly escalated until windows was unable to load
drivers. I removed the extra stick of ram, putting me back in the 256Meg area, brought it back to life, if at a crawl.

My suggestion is barring access to test equipment, finding compatable hardware and swapping parts to find one that is faulty works fairly well.

The lan problem could be this too, but from what I have seen when stuff flickers on and off, it is usually the result of a short or a losely sealed case, the result of, uh.. dropping things too often.
