Windows Marketplace for Mobile to accept apps on July 27

Mark your calendars, everyone: July 27, 2009. That’s when the Windows Marketplace for Mobile will begin accepting applications created by… well, YOU!

In case you haven’t heard, the Windows Marketplace for Mobile will come with every Windows Mobile 6.5 phone. So if you’re a Windows Mobile developer, you can more easily get your apps to all those customers. And before the year is done, all users with Windows Mobile 6.0 and 6.1 phones will get the Marketplace, too. That’s a lot of potential Windows phones for your apps.

What started out as an initiative to help middle school students learn about programming concepts has ballooned out into a great tool for all beginner programmers. It’s the Visual Studio Learning pack… and it’s ready for you to download.

This pack allows you to interactively step through concepts like sorting where you can visually represent the steps taken to algorithmically perform a sort. Pretty cool stuff.

My favorite part was the ability to have complicated arrays automatically constructed for me with the proper syntax with just a few clicks. This is a great teaching tool for instructors or for private use. Even experts may want that around just in case :P.

You asked to go deeper, we listened. Stefan and I met with Roopali from the Live Search team.

We had a high-level discussion about the 2nd Pillar in project “Silk Road”: the Live Search API 2.0. This is the very same back end used for some little known websites… like Facebook, heard of it? ;)

We’ll circle back to Pillars 1 and 3 in future sessions, so stay tuned and keep on rockin’.

A PC that surpasses a Mac's industrial design? [A PC that surpasses a Mac's industrial design?]

While I'm a Windows guy (was even before my days at MS), I can admit that I'm a fan of Apple's laptop designs. I believe your computer can look as good as it runs and that industrial design should be woven throughout the development process and not just an afterthought.

In my opinion, PCs have historically not held the same aesthetic appeal that Macs do... but this caught my attention in a BIG way:

The new Adamo from Dell has a machined aluminum chassis similar to Apple's new Macbooks and contains many design cues that feel very well thought out (backlit keyboard, port placement, amazingly thin, lid hinge, onyx color).

What do you all think?? Worthwhile or does Apple still outshine the PC in design?
