Coffeehouse - so how does Sparkle / "EID" feel?

So far, I love it. Good work! Seems suprisingly fast here after that first run, it's just a little sluggish after a cold boot. Maybe a splash screen (something like in Acrylic, nothing fancy or animated or even in WPF as that is part of the load time)
would be helpful there as some kind of launch feedback.

I'd like to see the controls Sparkle uses in my own apps as well. Some straightforward way to change the visual style would be nice (there may be one I haven't found yet, though).
Everyone: F1 is your friend ... pretty much everything is easy to do, just read up the nice and concise help topics!

Coffeehouse - "Sparkle" CTP is out!

CannotResolveSymbol wrote:

Is it possible to get the same look and feel for controls that you are using, or is that something exclusive to this app? Just curious.

At the moment this is specific to this application. I used Sparkle to create these Styles and Templates.

Create a control (ex. button) > right click > edit template > Edit Copy of Template (to start with "something) or New Template (to start with nothing.

The docs (F1) explains all this stuff in details - it is fun ... You can create styles and templates in the page you are on, or in the application -to make them available to all pages across your app.

You can even create resources like Brushes (colors)... Draw something, create a fill color/brush you like > Properties palette > click on the "Fill" property field label > Make a new resource > name it

you can then do the same process but choose to use the resource instead of creating one... Then all these will use the same resource fill/brush

Yes! There are several tutorials in this CTP build actually

Just install and run Expression Interactive Designer (EID), and you will see the Welcome Screen appear. It allows you to go to the tutorials, the help, or open one of the sample applications.

Coffeehouse - Final Vista UI??

I like the Windows Vista UI - I was happy to see less blue, more black and less saturation, actually.

I do understand where everyone is coming from when they comment on this. All the comments are valid, but I do know that my experience as a user has been improved.

The more I use the December CTP build, the more outdated XP feels, when I boot to it.

The new UI reminds me of the "less is more" saying, especially color-wise... Think about it: decades ago, cars had chromes, "fins", etc. Some of this was due to technology's current state at the time, but the result was "more" elements for the eye to see. Car
designers go for less visible bumpers (the new Jetta's, the TT's, etc), less lines and parts on the dashboard (such as this sporty Volvo I had a ride in last month), etc. AERO's design seems to be taking the same kind of direction.

The glass material and subtle animated transitions convey a more tangible feel to the User Interface elements I interact with.

The color settings are quite cool, there are actual HSB (Hue Saturation Brightness) sliders to customize things to your liking.

Finally, I hope that MS will put out a clear list of all the cool new things that were added to the OS - if not, I will make an attempt in my blog ... Things like improved copy/paste/move workflow, etc.
