I always thought C9/coffeehouse was the place for Microsofties to listen to public opinion creating the level of transparency I thought channel 9 was about? Okay the videos are great but I always wished for Microsoft developers to post in the coffeehouse, people are busy I suppose. When somebody is ranting on about Microsoft its only official defense is you Charles, I feel bad for you...you'd think the people that write the code, make the decisions would be here posting on the only official Microsoft community site?

  • Metro has been tried already, it didn't work

    Was it heavy?

I recently purchased an Ipad 3 and I think its great, note taker HD, kindle books and pdfs(novels and  textbooks), games, Pepper Pig for the baby plus a chess app.

I really disliked the Apple movement for a long time, the marketing strategy, the end users etc but you have to admit IT isnt for geeks anymore. We're living in a world where average joe uses a cheap laptop just to check his/her facebook. Apple have the human IT market, if their prices were lower then they'd have the whole market.

I cant stand to hold my breath much longer for a solution, an eco-system from Microsoft. I waited for a Windows phone and although it is good I still use the Facebook app rather than the integrated features. There are apps missing for the market place why will they suddenly appear for the Windows 8?

I actually thought that we were getting a new full Desktop OS and Metro OS loosely based on the same thing with a chance to install either depending on your hardware. People wont budge from XP and definitely not Windows 7.

  • Bad (as in terrible) software

I use Opera full time (Dev) right now I have 45 tabs open. At my worst I have triple that, this is partly due to the save feature when you close re-open the browser, never had a problem.

When Opera cant handle a something like Silverlight I will open IE instead....the time it takes just to open, copy a url and go is atrocious.

I always thought Sky+ was acceptable apart from the kiosk music on an irritating loop. BTVision is slow garbage with too may levels to its hierarchy.

  • WP7 apps to Win8?

Thanks mate, that cleared that up.

  • WP7 apps to Win8?

I thought there was mention of being able to make your WP7 apps work on Win8 Metro. Im not so naive as to think there is a button click (wizard) to accomplish this but I thought it might be a feature/marketing tool to increase the app count for both OS to attract developers?

Fine, Ill stick with MVVM. Thanks!

  • WP7 apps to Win8?

So Ive had an idea for an app I was going to write for the WP7. It was on the back burner till news of the Win8 came about.

If I was going to start from scratch, should I write it for the phone and convert it later?

Whats involved in converting it from WP7 to Win8?

Should I be applying certain models, patterns & practice for the transition?

     Any advice, useful links?

    Thanks

  • SKYPE for Windows Phone Beta

Yeah, I clicked the link to send it to my phone but nothing happening yet. Cant see it at all on the marketplace app, the search is atrocious.

EDIT: It just installs it without any announcement, fair enough.
