Show Off at MIX08 [Show Off at MIX08]

I hope to see a lot of you at next month's MIX08 in Las Vegas. Regardless of whether you attend, though, I know that many of you will be interested in our Show Off event on Thursday night. You can find the details here: http://www.visitmix.com/2008/showoff/. Essentially, we're looking for short videos (3 minutes or less) where you show off cool stuff. It's that simple. Silverlight Slide.Show [Silverlight Slide.Show]

I suspect this is just the kind of thing that Niners will appreciate. Vertigo recently released their free Slide.Show application for Silverlight 1.0. I have a sample and some pointers in today's blog post: http://blogs.msdn.com/mswanson/archive/2007/12/18/silverlight-slide-show.aspx. Not sure how embeddable (or not) it is in The Coffeehouse, but it certainly works well for blog entries and web sites.

Fellow geeks (and I mean that in the most complimentary way): I thought many of you would be interested in a free utility I just released called SEAMonster. It's a .NET-based implementation of the brilliant seam carving paper presented at this year's SIGGRAPH conference. You've probably already seen the video of their work, and if you haven't, you're in for a treat. It's inspirational stuff.

I'd love an comments and suggestions. Note that the algorithm is computationally expensive, so working with large images will be glacially slow. As developers improve the algorithm, this situation should get a lot better.
