If the names Robert Fripp and King Crimson are unfamiliar to you, it's too bad that you weren't around when the first 4 or 5 King Crimson albums were released. When I hear what's going on musically today, I thank God that I was growing up in the same era as Robert, et. al. - including Peter Hammill and all the others. To write off what's being heard here as new-agey is to miss the bigger picture. And it's a huge picture. A wonderful picture. Nonetheless - what the hell is Robert doing showing even nominal support of Microsoft? Seems to me this goes squarely against the grain. In 35 years of following his musical contributions, I've never seen any indication of him or those of his musical genre and ability follow the masses, much less support them. And if ever there was a mass on this planet, it's Microsoft users. It's downright scary. Fripp and his contemporaries' music has always been the creative result of showing no interest whatsoever in what everybody else is doing. And now Microsoft? Robert, what were you thinking? Life is filled with bitter ironies. What I've heard sounds nice, but what place does it have on a MS operating system? In the meantime, I'll continue enjoying what Fripp has done by pulling out my albums and putting them on the turntable. As for OS sounds - I'm perfectly fine with whatever sounds my computer makes - a Mac G5 running OS 10.4.3.
