You cant use Zune as an external hard drive
2. You cant subscribe or download podcasts at the zune store
3. Stripped down device, no games, alarm clock, stopwatch, world clock, password-protected volume limiter, equalizer, calendar, address book or notes module.
4. Miss out on the 3,000 iPod accessories
5. Over 80 percent of 2007 cars will have an iPod connector option, none have zune
6 . regid copy protection and drm. I dont mind paying for music, but it has to be flexible. Like half play of a song counts as "one play", not resend a song.
7 . wi-fi mess, Zunes can connect only to each other. Who’d build a Wi-Fi device that can’t connect to a wireless network — to sync with your PC, for example? Nor to an Internet hot spot, to download music directly?
8. the zune store doesn’t sell TV shows, movies or audio books
9. the zune store are much smaller than itunes, 2 mill vs 3-5 mill
10. the Zune store is also missing gift certificates, allowances, user-submitted playlists and so on
11. can’t use Windows Media Player to load the Zune with music ?? ( this must be wrong )
12. thicker (0.6 inch vs. 0.4), taller (4.4 inches vs. 4.1) and heavier (5.6 ounces vs. 4.8) (zune vs 30 gb ipod)
13. fm radio has week reception and you cant make recordings.

"

Competition is good and all. But what, exactly, is the point of the Zune? It seems like an awful lot of duplication — in a bigger, heavier form with fewer features — just to indulge Microsoft’s “we want some o’ that” envy. Wireless sharing is the one big new idea — and if the public seems to respond, Apple could always add that to the iPod."

So the question is..why should anyone buy a zune player ??

in reply to Whats bad with the Zune list

<evnet:views>24231</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/249773/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>
I was considering buying a zune device, but you (ms) has really missed the target this time.

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/09/technology/09pogue.html?8dpc

1. This confirmation, coming from a fresh Nintendo source, follows news from last month in which we exclusively revealed Nintendo plans, a full version of which you can read here.

The announcement will take place at around 11.20AM this Friday at the Makuhari Messe Convention Center in Tokyo. Iwata will fully outline the Revolution controller, as well as show some software, including, from what we have gathered, the game formerly known as Mario 128.

“Mario is the game that will show off the Revolution better than anything else in development right now,” a trusted and highly-placed source told SPOnG today. “You have to remember that the Revolution will take standard GameCube controller input and this is not solely for GC backward compatibility and retro gaming. The Revolution controller concept is merely an option for developers, something totally new, as was the Nintendo DS.”
in reply to Revolution Controller showing just a few hours away

<evnet:views>7331</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/113004/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>http://news.spong.com/detail/news.asp?mode=news&type=n&cid=&pid=&vid=&prid=9130&n=Revolution+Controller+showing+confirmed+%96+Iwata+keynote+to+reveal+allSPOnG can confirm that Satoru Iwata will show the Nintendo Revolution controller in all its glory on 16th of this month – a mere three days away. [Microsoft's Midlife Crisis - what do you think ??]

Forbes.com has this interesting read, an article about the internal life in Microsoft, using the psychological term, midlife crisis, to describe the current state of affaris.

http://www.forbes.com/2005/09/12/microsoft-management-software_cz_vm_0913microsoft_print.html

What has gone wrong? Microsoft, with $40 billion in sales and 60,000 employees, has grown musclebound and bureaucratic. Some current and former employees describe a stultifying world of 14-hour strategy sessions, endless business reviews and a preoccupation with PowerPoint slides; of laborious job evaluations, hundreds of e-mails a day and infighting among divisions so fierce that it hobbles design and delays product releases. In short, they describe precisely the behavior that humbled another tech giant: IBM (nyse: IBM - news - people ) in the late 1980s. Tellingly, IBM reached a point of crisis just over three decades after it started selling computers to commercial users.

----
"Some employees complain that they spend hours tracking down collaborators in far-flung groups instead of talking to customers and taking products to market. Working on a huge project requires checking in with management constantly. "Instead of promoting the product to customers, I'd get stuck in the office until midnight preparing slides for my monthly product review," says David Ryan, 33, a marketer for Windows XP. He has just been freed up to pursue an incubation project in the server group, where he is happily exempt from most reviews. At Microsoft a "review" is often a progress report illustrated with 15 PowerPoint slides. "
----
"Other staffers say that almost every move requires a lawyer's signature and that even routine approvals can take weeks. Recently one employee waited a month while a $10,000 purchase order for outside development work was held up by legal. By the time the lawyers were done, the budget for the deal had evaporated. Dennis Reno left Microsoft two years ago feeling burned out from bureaucracy. He'd worked 18-hour days but got little done because he was bogged down by paperwork. "The smallest issue would balloon into a nightmare of a thousand e-mails," says Reno, who is now at Plumtree Software (nasdaq: PLUM - news - people "
----
"Jeff B. Erwin, who quit in December after five years there, adds, "Microsoft has some of the smartest people in the world, but they are just crushing them. You have a largely unhappy population." "
----

in reply to Microsoft's Midlife Crisis - what do you think ??

<evnet:views>4560</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/112423/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>Forbes.com has this interesting read, an article about the internal life in Microsoft, using the psychological term, midlife crisis, to describe the current state of affaris. http://www.forbes.com/2005/09/12/microsoft-management-software_cz_vm_0913microsoft_print.htmlWhat has gone wrong? Cringely. NerdTV is essentially Charlie Rose for geeks - a one-hour interview show with a single guest from the world of technology. Guests like Sun Microsystems co-founder Bill Joy or Apple computer inventor Steve Wozniak are household names if your household is nerdy enough, but as historical figures and geniuses in their own right, they have plenty to say to ALL of us. NerdTV is distributed under a Creative Commons license so viewers can legally share the shows with their friends and even edit their own versions. If not THE future of television, NerdTV represents A future of television for niche audiences that have deep interest in certain topics.

:D

NerdTV is MPEG-4 video. You can download the shows and play them with any MPEG-4 player you like, most likely QuickTime. Still in development but coming soon is a Mediaframe Open Source Java applet player, which will play NerdTV video right in your browser without any plug-ins.

There are two versions of the complete show -- one with subtitles and one without -- and three audio-only versions for those who prefer to compute by radio. Yes, NerdTV will be a Podcast, too. Ogg Vorbis plays in WinAmp or Sonique with a special plugin.
