Exclusively for Windows Vista.

They're writing it exclusively for Windows Vista, so you can't run it on Windows XP. They say this is because they want to take advantage of blah blah blah. What advantages will Vista have over XP in terms of gaming? DX10? If it's just DirectX 10, why won't that be available to XP?

What an excellent way to push Vista onto millions of desktops right out the gate... ;)

All conspiracy theories aside, I'm super excited for this. If any of you were hardcore Halo Xbox fans, and then played Halo PC with its numerous and endlessly entertaining mods, you'll know how exciting Halo 2 on the PC will be.

Besides, it helps to bridge the gap between the Halo movie and Halo 3, presumably Bungie's next project they've been working on. I say Halo 3 just because it makes a lot of sense to release Halo 3 around the movie and now PC game. [IT jobs: What's more important, skill or grades and college?]

Hrm. Being a Sophomore in high school, I've been thinking about what will come after I graduate, and I came up with some problems.

With my last report card, I had a 2.994 GPA, 2.7 cumulative. My high school only counts core classes for GPA, so it didn't include CAD or Adv. Computers, etc. Just English, Algebra, History, and Biology.

I've become increasingly worried a 2.9GPA out of high school is not going to get me into the colleges I'm looking at (Michigan State, or, if I can pull of a couple of 4.0s for the next two years, UC Berkeley) and then into the career I want (software development, possibly games) at a company I want (Microsoft is my first choice at the moment). I know I can work harder and get a 3.2-ish GPA, but I'm still slightly worried. My only problem is lack of attention in some classes. For example, I consider myself to be pretty skilled when it comes to writing code to perform a specified function in the language of my choice or solving complex problems, but I cannot for the life of me bring myself to write two pages on RNA replication, even though I understand it quite well.

For those of you out there with jobs in the IT industry, preferrably those with jobs at Microsoft, what were your grades like in high school, what college did you attend, and in the end, do you think it really mattered?

Probably a very stereotypical question, but I guess it needs to be asked.

Thanks :D

in reply to IT jobs: What's more important, skill or grades and college?

<evnet:views>10804</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/157427/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>Hrm. The rendering is pretty much pixel-perfect, but when using the design-time capabilities of one of my controls (the sidebar), I get an issue when building.

In the .design.cs file of the form, where it sets the properties and whatnot of the SideBar, it puts this line of code:

...
this.sideBar1.Name = "sideBar1";

((Trowbridge.UI.SideBar.SidePanelCollection)(new Trowbridge.UI.SideBar.SidePanel())).Add(this.sidePanel1);

this.sideBar1.SelectedPanel = null;
...

The above code sets off the error at build: Cannot convert type 'Trowbridge.UI.SideBar.SidePanel' to 'Trowbridge.UI.SideBar.SidePanelCollection' (the line between the Name and SelectedPanel sets). Design-time functionality remains intact, the designer is not killed, it just won't build. I have a feeling it has to do with the casts...

The code above is set by the following designer code:

internal class SidePanelCollectionConverter : TypeConverter
{
   public override bool CanConvertTo(ITypeDescriptorContext context, Type destType)
   {
       if (destType == typeof(InstanceDescriptor))
           return true;

       return base.CanConvertTo(context, destType);
   }

   public override object ConvertTo(
                ITypeDescriptorContext context,
                System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture,
                object value, Type destType)
   {
       if (destType == typeof(InstanceDescriptor))
       {
           System.Reflection.ConstructorInfo ci = typeof(SidePanel).GetConstructor(System.Type.EmptyTypes);

           return new InstanceDescriptor(ci, null, false);
       }

       return base.ConvertTo(context, culture, value, destType);
   }
}

// apoligies for the pink.
// colorized for easier reading

If you'll note the line giving issues, it's making some sort of very strange casts that make no sense whatsoever to me. Unfortunately, it slows down start up time, computers on the network cant connect to it, it's a mess.
