When I did my interview for my Distro I said that Windows 7 would be a great product and boy did I get blasted for it by, not the PC/OS community, but by others who read it. They called me a traitor, a closet Windows user, and they wished upon me death by Syphillis. Seriously, they did. They even called corona_coder a gNewSense developer. But now Mark Shuttleworth has said it. In an interview he said Windows 7 is a "great product" So it looks like even the competition is taking notice.

I want to publicly thank Mark Shuttleworth for his statements so people wont think Im a f$%^cking crackpot anymore.

BTW, with PC/OS 2009v2 a great many refinements have come into the mix and its a lot more stable than 2009, I fixed the RAID bug that caused a kernel panic if certain RAID controllers were used upon install and yes, Im looking into ZippyV's UPC problem that he mentioned in another thread. Trying to see if its more a GNOME problem or a kernel driver problem.

New Toy [New Toy]

I just got a new toy the other day that I just set up. A 5 PC KVM switch. No more 5 keyboards or mice and monitors my desk looks so clean. I can now swap between my PC/OS box, my build servers and my Windows/OpenSolaris/My Hackintosh. It works like a charm.

2009: The year of productivity

EDIT: A little fun, I just SSHed into the PC/OS CoreServer from my PC/OS mainbox that I sshed from my OpenSolaris Box, all using KVM.

Windows 7 is by far the best release of Windows thus far. It even kicks the hell out of Windows 2000. But alas, I have a few gripes but they arent huge gripes.

1. I have certain USB keys that when I try to mount them they wont mount. They are formated for Fat 32, they work in PC/OS, Leopard and in Win Vista and Win XP but Windows 7 doesnt pick up the formatting.

2. It doesnt happen often but once in awhile my wireless connection will just drop. stay off for a few seconds and reconnect. This behavior doesnt happen in PC/OS, Leopard and in Win Vista and Win XP

3. Home Group will not pick up my PC/OS machines, Win XP, Win Vista or leopard will just fine. Not Windows 7

4. My beloved Sun keyboard is a no go with Win 7.

Besides these gripes, Im surprised. of course I wont use it as my default due to Genuine Advantage and activation but for those that love Windows and hate Linux or the Mac, you guys should be happy.

My trusty old PowerEdge 500SC was showing signs of age so it was time to get a new workstation. So which one did I decide on. Looked at getting a Mac Pro. I do have a MacBook that does run PC/OS but decided against the Mac pro. Looked at the Dells especially the Ubuntu certified Dells for running PC/OS but was like naah. I looked at the Lenovo IdeaCentre K230 (Maximum Productivity) ordered it and today it came in. After sorting through six years of wires and mess I set it up. I hate the keyboard and kept my Dell keyboard with the Microsoft Mouse. This time around I did something different. I kept the drive with Windows Vista 64 and I installed a second hard drive for PC/OS. Went through the PC/OS install and didnt have a hitch, hiccup or anything. This is even using my home image which I thought was gonna crap out on me. 8 gigs of RAM, a full terabyte of storage. I went the maximum and after discounts, rebates and etc. etc. and flirting with the girl on the phone I only paid a little over $950. I wont have to upgrade for another 10 years. WOOHOO. Now all I need is a new digi camera.

Tonight I was on my SO's myspace and I noticed one of her friends posted an update. So I went ahead and looked and I saw the update and also saw she had changed the background. I thought it was cool and thought nothing of it. I mentioned it later on and Dana had a total nuclear meltdown. "Why are you looking at her MySpace?" "She's single now, do you want to be with her" "Shes working tonight why dont you go pick her up, take her home and f#$ck her brains out. I could care less" and I mean she had a meltdown over MySpace and a background. I did download that background and set it as the wallpaper on my EeePC although my SO hasnt seen that.

She claims its not jealousy. Im wondering if it could be some kind of post-baby-delivery-imbalance.

Today has been a Thanksgiving that will top other thanksgivings. Im blogging from a hospital. Do you wanna know why? Well at 8:00am, water broke. At 3:22:47pm, weighing in at 19.75 inches long, 7lbs 13 ozs. He will carry my name but Alex is what we will be calling him, I think "jr" is way, way too redneck.

She was way early, 2 1/2 weeks but weight, size is good and everybody is happy, healthy and resting comfortably. Well, she is feeding him now and the overweight black nurse kicked me out so "momma and baby could have some time, daddy GET OUT."

Today also marked the first time I was in the delivery room. WOW. What an experience. Scary and exciting at the same time, surreal. Think of the movie Aliens but instead of the chest it came out elsewhere. It sounded like Jack The Ripper was having a hack-and-slash-athon. Hold her hand, I did and my left hand is so numb I cant feel the keys and I am deaf in my left ear. She cussed, she carried on she called me names that made me blush and being in the Navy I thought I heard it all but she came up with some new ones.

If I have any more kids, I think I will keep the traditional duty station, in the waiting room.

A week ago I surpassed both Solaris and some peoples beloved, gNewSense in popularity on Distrowatch. The newest version of PC/OS is available from the website and so far all comments have been good.

On another note, I finally got a copy of Windows 7 and I will be the first to admit, everything looks good. I am very impressed.

Everythings going well. better than I expected. Moms healthy, baby is healthy most I can ask for but something is amiss.

Dana is being WAAAAAAAAAAAY to nice.

The kind of girl Im attracted to for long term relationships, some of you already know this. the ice queen quasi goth type. Nice girls, no fun. I like a challenge. Darth Vader in a skirt (minus the helmet, burns and she has to have the right plumbing of course) the type of girl that will crush a mans larynx without warning. The type of girl that if you pour boiling water down her throat she craps ice cubes. Thats my spot yo.

When i first met Dana she wouldnt even speak to me, actually I asked her how she was doing and her response was "f$#ck you" I was hooked, for me love at first sight. But persistence pays off, pushing, arguing and instead of being nice being an a$$hole. We started going out and it was forever before she even held my hand. I remember that day. We were walking in the mall after I started losing all the weight and had to get new clothes, I felt something grab my hand I looked and she had grabbed me in what first seemed like a vice death grip, she loosened up after about 8 feet when we went in the store and I was looking at crap she put her head on my shoulder. That night was the first night we ever, you know. Anywho, my dad hates her because she basically ignores him. They can be in the same room she wont even acknowledge his existence and he will look at me and ask "is she breathing". She opens up a lot to my mom, niece and older daughter and Dan who is one of my friends from High School who is gay. they go shopping and out and my mom loves her. But since she has been pregnant she has been considerate, smiling, chatting doing nice things for me, communicating. We are actually making love with foreplay and all that instead of her "I want sex" She has always had an electrifying kiss, when we kiss its always been that Im drowning and this will probably be the last thing we will ever do. The only remnants of the old Dana is when my dad comes around, she still locks up. But guys. its weird

Today I decided to take the day off of everything, no looking at code. Unplugged the Vonage and havent looked at work e-mail all day. And I did count how many texts and voicemails I got today, 22. I squatted on the couch with a 12 pack, some 94% fat free popcorn and those three movies. First up was the Mist. Its a Stephen King film and was OK, not the best I had seen but definately worth the video rental price. The Excorcist was next and being a fan of the original films, Exorcist and Exorcist 3 ( I dont count Exorcist 2 since it was really retarded) I was OK with this film. It had a tight plot, good actors and a really good scenario and was mediocre scary. Not a put down at all. Next up was a Sci-Fi miniseries called Tin Man. This was the surprise, I wasnt expecting much of this film. From a network that brought out blockbusters like Alien Apocalypse, Rottweiler and Python vs Boa (I still snicker) I was expecting something retarded. So I french pressed some great coffee, a Starbucks black apron blend. Popped some more popcorn and watched it. To my surprise it was quite good. Best thing the Sci-Fi channel has produced. It was interesting as it was a a retelling of the Wizard of Oz with a Sci-Fi twist, yet it was a sequel without corny musical scores and a dancing Scarecrow, lion and a bucket of bolts. Some drawbacks, it was kind of drawn out, get to the point already. The high point, the sisters. The sorceress was that hot in a, sleazy, prostitute, uptight witch look and atittude which was hooooooot. I like the fiery, rule the world with an iron fist, female Darth Vader type who had bats flying out of her cleavage who sucks the life force out of anyone who gets in her way. DG, the main character was the more down to earth girl next door type look and cool attitude. Someone you would just go out and have a beer with and the type you would settle down with and go make babies. The adventure lies in the sorceress who would make your life interesting and if not, a living hell. Anyhow, great movie, worth the rental price and great for killing a few hours. I would definitely watch it again.

Steve Ballmer wakes up, gets his gun case out unlocks it and gets his 45. Grabs XP's leash and says, "come on boy lets go for a walk." They walk behind the wood shed and Ballmer pets XP, tells XP what a good boy he has been and its time to go. He stands up, points the 45, KAAAPLOWEEEEEE XP's on the ground a big gapping hole in the head.

The Linux crowd is already declaring victory and Intel doesnt want Vista.
