The 9 Guy Around The World - Mac OS - TIGER in vmware 5.5

As far as the lawyers are concerned, you don't own your software. But at least they don't take your license away for computing while drunk.

Indeed. Odd that it's one of few industries where they can retain ownership without the liability for defects or detrimental results thereof. Imagine if leasing a car negated the legal risks for the car companies. Imagine if medicine that caused you harm
were "licensed" to you instead of sold outright, and if doing such would protect the manufacturer from legal retaliation. Amazing. Software licensing is a weird beast indeed.

The 9 Guy Around The World - Mac OS - TIGER in vmware 5.5

(for matt0210): It's actually DMCA, but it doesn't really matter. It will soon be overshadowed by the IPPA (Intellectual Property Protection Act of 2006) submitted to the Senate by Lamar Alexander (R-Tx). If interpreted literally, it would render you
a criminal for disclosing the existence of, or attempting the removal of, a rootkit used within a legitimate software product (i.e. Sony's DRM stupidity). Oh yes people: America knows how to make stupid into stupider.

Coffeehouse - MSH - The Latest Linux Ripoff

Gee, in college they taught us that computers (at the simplest level) were all about "efficient reuse of information". One man's rip-off is another mans adaptation, is yet another mans inspiration. If we can't employ the fruits of our predecessors' labor
without being called thieves, we must eliminate not only the so-called "rip-off" software, but relevant books, magazines, and web sites. Sheesh. Give me a break. If we get down to it, we all stole from the Abacus and counting stones in piles. I wish idiots
would stop looking backwards and focus on the path in front of them. Talk about wasting life's precious time.

Coffeehouse - Roll call - tell us who you are!

I live and work in southeastern Virginia (USA) wearing too many hats to make sense at my current employer. I'm responsible for AD/2003 management and scripting, SMS 2003, SUS (hopefully WUS very soon), ASP/SQL development and general scripting magical
stuff. I go for weeks doing nothing but ASP portal development and then turn around and make SMS packages with Wise to do silent installs. Insanity.

I typically get 3 hrs of "family time" after work before going to bed and with a Blackberry ball-and-chain, I rarely get a quiet weekend. Job security is more like job slavery, but how can I complain with the economy the way it is? Ok, my bio turned into
a whining session. I apologize.
