Coffeehouse - Apple has fun with Longhorn

I love to hear the bickering of the 'great OS battles'... Can't we just admit that nobody innovates, it's always borrowed from somebody else's idea... Case in point... Apple's "Dashboard" you are comparing to the "Sidebar" in Longhorn, HOWEVER, it is more
akin to Arlo Rose & Perry Clarke's "Konfabulator" which was out before Microsoft's implementation of the "Sidebar". So, who's innovating and who's copying? We may never know... Reference: http://www.konfabulator.com

TOMORROW @ 4pm PT / 7pm ET ---------------------------- Just bumping up the discussion as a reminder, sadly one of the last episodes filmed in San Francisco... I still don't like G4 and the G4TechTV website sucks content-wise compared to the old TechTV
site. They would have been better off cloning the TechTV site and changing the logo. But oh well, Comcast will destroy TV one cable market at a time...

Coffeehouse - Mimi ipods defective - BE WARNED!!! (as seen on 5-11 TSS)

I've got my 5 GB first-gen as well, it's served admirably over the past couple years. I have over 6 GB of songs, so the iPod Mini is not an option for me at this time anyways. However, I do know some people with iPod Minis so, I will keep them updated.
There is an issue with the headphone jack on the Mini's as noted on Apple's discussion page: http://discussions.info.apple.com/WebX?14@241.ICMiad74m6h.1@.6892f9a9 -------- As far as the disappearing songs issue... I can't find reference to that on Apple's
site (no surprise) or on TechTV's gallery of show sites (or the show notes for the May 11th Show). Your songs can be deleted for a variety of issues, mostly when syncing, but I don't believe this to be the case here. I did a Google search and the closest I
can come is to PC users using ephPod. here's the link: http://www.ephpod.com/listserver-archives/0778.html

Coffeehouse - OT: Comcast Fires ENTIRE TechTV Staff

Seriously, what is your problem here? All of your posts seem to bash Macs and/or Leo Laporte. Do you have any intelligent information to add to the conversation at all? Even whe i ask you to take the squabble off-board, you make personal attacks (which
usually involve about three words; none of which even form a proper sentence). Here's a few questions I will pose to you: Why do you consistently bash Macs, Mac Users, and Leo Laporte? What do you do for a living? Can you provide any credibility to support
your accusations? and finally, Why can't you accept that people, EVEN people at Microsoft, use Macintosh Computers on a daily basis, and quit your whining?

Coffeehouse - Should we step up the video quality?

From a perspective of somebody who's gone to school for television production (I REALLY miss those days...) I personally like the low-budget look, per se. It adds a casual look to the videos, makes it look less staged, makes you and your subjects look
like "real people we can relate to". Plus like you mentioned, it makes the subject feel more at ease with the interview, as it's easier to ignore a camcorder than a production portable unit (not to mention the pain of carting around the camera and associated
lighting kit). Bottom line: you've got a good thing going there, there's not much I would change at all, and the cameras work, and work very well for the format of this site. Now, if you were doing something for a formal Microsoft-branded site, like the TechNet
site or whatever, I would suggest some higher-end equipment. but I like it as it is!

Outstanding! There seems to be a wealth of info on the subject and judging by the symptoms as experienced by quite a lot of people, static sounds right. My only issue is that I leave Connecticut in 16 days on May 11th and won't report to Silverdale, Washington
till June 5th. that's a short time to get a watch out and back, and a long time to wait for a fix (if that makes any sense)... I wish it were easier...

Coffeehouse - See SPOT [watch] RESET?!?

I've had my Fossil/Abacus SPOT Watch for about a couple months now, and today it did something odd... TWICE... it apparently reset itself or something, as twice I've looked at my watch only to discover it's reset to 0:18 and it's January 1, 2003. What's
the deal here? I don't live in a service area (yet), but get service when I travel to Hartford or Providence. So, what's the deal with the resets? it's rather a pain, especially twice in a day. FYI, the battery still shows a 77% charge, so it's not low...
nor have I gotten it wet.

Well, when posting on the forums, there's no formatting options (I've come to expect this on a lot of message boards when using my Mac) but the Channel 9 forums ignore any carriage returns I put in the text box, and when I try to add HTML, it'll display
correctly in the preview, but as I'll demonstrate here:
It doesn't work. Neither does the code in square brackets (as used in the quote style): [br] either way, it shows up as one glob of a message. I'll go test in IE shortly, but I'm expecting similar results...

Okay, now I'm testing this using IE... Bold Text

Coffeehouse - Watch Channel 9 on your television

Wow, the Xbox extender is a great idea! though, I think it'd be even greater (and insanely more popular) if it could provide Media Center-like access from your regular Windows XP box... or even just a stripped version to pipe your MP3s, videos and pictures...
That would be a killer product!

Coffeehouse - Excel XP -> Excel v.X Macro Problems

Here's a question for the Office gurus out there... I have an Excel worksheet I need to work on. It was created on Excel 97, and I can open update, and save it fine in Excel XP, however, when i try to open it in Excel v.X (10.1.5) I get errors on opening
the file stating "Run-time error "57121": Cant exit design mode because Control 'ComboBox1' can not be created." Of the four buttons (Continue, End, Debug, Help) only "End" and "Help" are avaliable to choose, and help tells me to enable macros. I'd LOVE to,
but it's not letting me. This worksheet has several pulldown boxes I need to use. Argh! is there any help for this? I need to use this worksheet, and running Excel XP in VirtualPC is an option, though only a last resort (for speed reasons).
