Coffeehouse - No Google Firefox .. maybe they are rebuilding IE?

I am lovin' Firefox, but if Google released a modern browser (see tabbed browsing and customizable UI in Firefox) based on IE that would be hard to top. I develop for the Inter/Intranet market and the fact that I don't have to target multiple browsers
(IE, Netscape) is a relief. Is Microsoft beginning to see the writing on the wall yet?

Longhorn wishlist item: 'Strip Formatting and Paste'.
Countless times a day I copy text from different programs and the internet and, before pasting the text into another program, I first paste it into Notepad to strip the formatting and then copy the text again. Can't someone come up with a way to build that
simple process into the paste functionality?
i.e. Ctrl-V for simple 'Paste' and Ctrl-somekey for 'Strip Formatting and Paste'.

Coffeehouse - Speak up! Microsoft is listening.

I month or so ago I posted my thoughts about Visual Studio. Basically, the idea was that the suite of tools rocked, but was priced wat too high for the hobbyist/entry level programmer to pay on their own.

Well, Microsoft stepped up big time and released express versions of VS 2005 (albeit betas right now) components this week. I've been testing them for a day now and all I can say is Kudos! Not that my post had anything to do with the release of these tools
(I would guess at least 6 months worth of work went into setting up the express packages), but I sure feel like MS is listening to customers (developers in this particular case) and listening with intent to reply in good favor.

Thanks again Redmondians!

Coffeehouse - What is your favorite search engine: And why?

ironic timing of this post... on monday I removed the google toolbar and installed msn's to give it a chance. after four days of less than desired searching experiences I found myself typing google into the address bar and hitting ctrl + enter. needless
to say I removed the msn toolbar and reinstalled the google toolbar this afternoon. aesthetic differences aside, the google search experience is far better than msn's. jmho.

Coffeehouse - Visual Studio is just way too expensive!

For someone, who is not in school and therefore can't get an educational copy, Visual Studio is just way too expensive! (more than $500 for 2003 Pro version alone)

How is someone supposed to break into the windows application development world when that person can't afford to buy the requisite tools?

Microsoft appears to be doing a great job with .NET starter kit solutions and sample code (ASP and Windows Forms). How about a Visual Studio starter kit? For goodness sakes, you can build a PC for the amount of money it takes to buy VS 2003 Pro!

Is anyone at MS listening?
