I still have my tmobile Dash and does everything I need so far.  Personally, I could care about "open" as that fact does not help me as a user of a phone.  What matters is price, features, and ease of use.  From a picture, it looks like some good cool hardware and may be interested from that standpoint.  Does it have Sync to Outlook?
I never use outlook so I haven't tried syncing yet but we do know that it lacks Exchange support atm

So how is Android? I still have to hear what's so great about it other than the fact that it's open source!!!111~

I'm really enjoying it so far, it's a solid platform, much more stable than my N95 was (but that doesn't say much)

There's a few annoyances like not being able to save picture messages, the lack of other IM supports, video recording and touch screen keyboard but that's it really. And these aren't problems that can't be solved by Apps or updates which can be released further down the line.

The real selling point for me is the app store not being vetted and that it is a platform and it's not locked to one company like the iPhone or Blackberry, I think this can only get better with time and within a year it will be an alternative to any other platform out there.

Has anyone got their hands on one yet? Anything to say?

I got mine about 8hrs ago and after an unsteady start I can safely say I'm loving it. I've just come off an N95 so I was pleased to see that the G1 doesn't seem under powered, it was a worry.

There are some amazing apps for this thing already, TuneWiki is just an exceptional idea, really gimmicky by I absolutely love it, it'll definitely be shown off at the pub. Twitroid is a great client for anyone who uses Twitter and the Lolcat Builder is an absolutely essential app.

The games are grade A smack, they are insanely addictive, I suggest checking out Coloroid and Bonsai Blast, that and the classic lights out cannot be resisted.

However... Europe hasn't got the Amazon MP3 store, which we knew wasn't happening but they also seem to have stripped other client support from the IM Client too, all I can get is Google Talk and I wont lie, one of the reasons I bought it was so I could use WLM on the go. I'm also struggling with the way the inbox is arranged, it's too much like an e-mail having just come from Symbian. It shows your entire to and sent from one person in one 'thread' rather than breaking it down into inbox and sent but I can get over that in time.

All I need now is a few apps for the wish list:

Lightsabre app - c'mon we all want it.

A messenger app for Windows Live

    A last.fm client

A hotmail plugin for the external mail would be nice

and as amazing as the browser is an optimised Facebook app wouldn't go amiss to save us all some time, eh?

  • I was victimized

Samsung YP-P2 for me, sure it doesn't do EVERYTHING and it doesn't have downloadable apps but I was getting sick of my N95s battery dying because I was using it as an MP3 player and it was disturbingly slow because I had 2GB of music on it.

As far as they iPhone goes my contract with T-Mobile is up on Oct 31st, I'm going G1 baby!

  • Has anyone built a Home Server?

I've been thinking about this for some time and actually asked C9 about NAS solutions and what was the best way to go. I'm about to become a poor student so I don't think I'll worry about it just yet but I am quite tempted to install Ubuntu on my old PC, slap a couple of hard drives in it and just share that bad boy over the network eventually.

Maybe a project I can undertake when I get home for Christmas!

  • too many monitors/computers?

I have the same problem albiet on a much smaller scale, the family are screaming at me to do something with my old PCs but I love them too much!

I know Harlequin is right in my heart of hearts though... I may donate two of my old rigs now I have my desktop and MBP Sad

  • What do you want to see in Windows Seven?

    • Single SKU, or maybe if they must break it down into a Domestic vs Business
    • BSOD logging of driver crashes, I mean I know that it's my soundcard that causes most of my problems because I never crashed before then but most people wont and it makes diagnosing much easier.
    • Maybe remove Paint & Notepad for something a little more updated they're starting to become a bit of a joke albiet nostalgic.
    • I personally love the idea being UAC but I think we need an option to disable it for certain programs. I know Microsoft might not know some of my programs and trust them, but after 3 years - I do! I should be the one choosing if they run or not without having to click Allow every time I turn my PC on.
    • I think  the 'Documents' folder is starting to get cluttered - Has anyone ever used the Contacts or Searches Folder? I only recently figured out what Links did (I now love that feature by the way) but do we really need a folder for it? It seems better suited to Control Panel?
    • Bring back classic Control Panel as default!
    • More backwards compatibility than Vista would be great, I've managed to find replacement programs for most things but I'm sure you can sandbox things so I can still run my beloved WinXP games that flat out refuse to work on Vista?

  • This is Techoff not Tech support

I'm fairly sure you didn't get to where you are on your own, so if you're blessed enough to know how to, then why not help the little people? Smiley

  • Do you pray?

for Apple to finally update the MacBook to aluminium so I can get a Mac... and of course a generally trouble free life Smiley

  • PNG wallpapers?

It does in an odd way. I thought you were lying but you're right in the Personalise section and setting backgrounds etc it's not there.

However if you open it in Windows Photo Gallery, right click the photo and go to "set as desktop background" and it'll be fine!

Edit: looking over it I guess it converts it to a JPG for you? It seems pretty damn instant and there isn't a noticable loss in quality for me as it was actually scaling a 640x480 PNG to 1440x900 so it did it fairly well, you'd have to tell me if it works for what you need!
