  • Problems with Vista 32

My experience has been that blue screens such as this are most often caused by buggy drivers, but figuring out which one requires analyzing the dump.  If you can catch the blue screen, it may also indicate which driver is involved.

If I had to guess, it would most likely be the Video card driver.  I'd check for the most recent drivers available, and load those and see if the blue screen issue goes away.

Also - I believe that Vista does have a memory diagnostic tool.  Memtest is the name, if it serves me right.  If you suspect physical hardware issues, that might be one route to take.

  • How-to setup Exchange on a child domain ?

    Yes it is possible.

You need to run Exchange setup with the /domainprep switch in the new sub-domain, and you would also need to create a new Recipient Update Service for that new domain that points to a domain controller in the sub-domain

  • 850 * 77.1 is 65535... unless you're Microsoft Excel.

There has already been a bug filed on this.  My guess is that it will be addressed with SP1.

  • E-mail delivered to local store in Exchange... but not appearing in mailbox

If message tracking says it was delivered locally to the mailbox, then it was delivered.

You should check to see if anything else could have affected the message after it was delivered.  For instance, check if there is any client-level antivirus or antispam running on the client desktop that interact with Outlook.

Have you enabled the DumpsterAlwaysOn registry key, and then checked "Recover Deleted Items" for both Inbox and Deleted Items?

  • Restoring SystemState, breaking IIS and Exchange

So the real issue is still IIS, no?  Once that is fixed, you should be able to reinstall Exchange without any issues.

What errors/warnings are being logged in the App log related to IIS?

The steps you took sound like they should work just fine.

  • Waaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh #2!

So I guess it's a good thing that the warranty got pushed out to 3 years, huh...

That doesn't take care of the bummer factor, and the loss of use while it's getting fixed, but hey, at least it's covered, right?

  • I can't set IBM T43p monitor resolution to 1400x1050

Display settings (resolutions) are defined in the driver inf file.  Have you looked at it to see if 1400x1050 exists as an option?

Depending on which video card it is, you might check on ATI's website as well to see if they have a mobility driver for you.

  • The death of a Mac

If you were rear-ended, the other person is at fault.  Their insurance should cover any losses that you sustained.  Was a police report filed?  Have you talked to your insurance (or the other persons insurance) to let them know the damage to your mac?\

BTW - glad to hear that you are ok.  Bruises will heal.

  • Powershell questions

Get-ChildItem would probably work for you here.  Or even more simply, just use Dir (it's an alias for get-childitem).

    Something like

    dir * -include *.exe -recurse

would search for all .exe files and would search the current directory and all subdirectories.

Help Dir -full will give the full help for this cmdlet.

  • Health scares and weight loss.

      1. Have you lost weight successfully, how? How long did it take?

Yes.  I've successfully used the Atkins diet several times (lost 30+ lbs each time over the course of about 3-4 months).  What most people don't understand about losing weight is that you can't just starve yourself.  In most cases, it is all about a total change in lifestyle, including both eating habits AND exercise habits.  With Atkins, the basic premise is that you cut out most simple carbs (sugars, breads, etc.) that your body breaks down very easily, and eat more proteins.  Your body has to work harder to break down proteins, and proteins provide a more sustainable source of energy (unlike carbs, which are quick, and often spike blood sugar content, leading to a crash in blood sugar content, and craving more).

I don't weigh a lot by any means, and Atkins isn't for everyone, but it works for me.  I like it because I can still eat meats and vegetables (which are both good for you).  Cutting out carbs is admittedly hard, but once you have cut them out for a week or so, I find I lose most of the cravings for them.

Once you are done losing weight, the idea is to help you identify the amount of carbs that you can eat per day and still maintain your weight.  For most people, that ends up being somewhere between 60-120g carbs per day.  When you consider that the RDA for Carbohydrates is something like 300g/day (for a 2000 calorie diet), that is ridiculous.
