[I don't think website visitor numbers are valid anymore.]

You know, I don't think website visitor numbers are valid anymore. In the past 2 weeks, I have "cought" over 2600 IPs of infected machines trying to post SPAM on one of my websites. Advertisers should not pay per visitor or click anymore. Perhaps it is time for a new way?

Funny how we live in a technical world ( I mean while on the Internet ) but at the same time, this world is so broken. For example one of the most important functions which is email is basically broken due to SPAM and now visitor statistics are broken due to SPAM bots, also "script kiddies" can DDoS major websites out of this world in matter of minutes since they control so many infected machines.

With the number of Internet "citizens" going up every day, these problems will just get worse and worse every day.

Makes you wonder, why won't anyone fix these issues? What is going on at ISPs? Do they ignore all these issues on purpose? Will "Internet2" be better at solving such problems? and perhaps the most important question of all, Who has the responsibility to fix our broken Internet?

What's your take on it?
in reply to I don't think website visitor numbers are valid anymore.

<evnet:views>1080</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/444840/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>You know, I don't think website visitor numbers are valid anymore. Sometimes, people even know the answers but they like to hear what others have to say about stuff. You might know some math and some .NET but in my opinion you are way up on your high horse most of the time.

From what you said yourself earlier, you just graduated or something and never really even worked a long period of time in this field.

99% of the time, most of the answers ofcourse can be found on the Internet, MSDN, books, IRC, you name it. I sometimes wonder why you do visit a technical forum? Oh yes, to talk and interact with others.

I wish I could tell you where I work, but I can not. But I do manage a whole lot of stuff for a very big business, all alone. I develop websites, NTservices, client/server apps, manage servers, manage databases. Just to clear things up, I have been programing on ZX Spectrum, VIC20, C64, ATARI STFM, AMIGA and PCs. I have made a couple of games ( no commercial ones yet, working on one though ). I have also been very active in the demo scene ( which I almost doubt you know what it is ). I have been working as a developer professionally around 13 years. Have you honestly ever even heard a SID? Or ever made a game in QBasic 1.0? Perhaps even seen FT2 ( FastTracker II )? Have you any idéa how to plot a pixel with ASM in DOS? Have you ever made your own font and sprite editor for DOS and DOS games? Have you ever coded a .MOD player for a DOS game?

I remember this guy, who said a PIII should be enough for almost everyone. Now, who was he... darn it, I can't remember his name...

:)

Don't get me wrong, I thank you for the help you have given me in some issues, but don't go around thinking everyone is an idiot just because you disagree with some of their beliefs or their way of talking/thinking or the questions they ask. In short, you my fellow human, are full of it. Maye it be ego or manure, I let that be unsaid.

If you wish to criticize me... please come back in 10 years, when you worked in some enterprise environment, meet more people, built your own business where you can live off it ...and I gladly accept your views.

Until then, pretty please with sugar on top... get off your high horse.
in reply to To W3bbo

<evnet:views>2177</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/443916/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>"He never really had much to begin with in my book anyway. Some of the questions he asked on TechOff could have been easily answered by reading MSDN, and that (along with his attitude in general) belies his claims to be a veteran of IT."…</evnet:previewtext>

<trackback:ping>http://channel9.msdn.com/443916/Trackback.aspx</trackback:ping>

C9 hardware / stats?
