I'm the Group Manager for the Visual Studio Data group. Basically, we produce the tools used inside of Visual Studio .NET, Office and SQL Server that surface data capabilities, as well as Visual FoxPro. I spend my days thinking about how to make Microsoft’s products the best data environments for developers.

I used to be a Lead Program Manager and Community Evangelist for Visual Basic .NET, driving community interests into the VB team.

Just wanted to point out that this is actually being worked on by a cross-language team. IOW, this isn't only a C# thing, but should be usable across .NET languages.

Huh? What don't you see? We've trained every developer, PM and tester in the company around security. We have automated tools that we run at every build. Every spec has a security review. We have people whose full time job is to provide security reviews at a higher level. WS03 has had many fewer security updates than any Windows OS before.

I'm curious what you think we should be doing - if we're missing something, maybe I can drive some of that to happen.

I think it's both - yes, revenue is a component of this (as far as sources go), but I really do think that we can get to pretty complete transparency without making source openly available. For instance, bringing customers in on things like specs, bug tracking, enhancement requests, etc. is a great start. Having wider community tech previews should help as well.

FWIW, I'm also interested in seeing how this goes - I've subscribed to the threads about the videos that I've done - so I'll be keeping up (love that RSS)
