Since you guys like to read Memos to Employees from Managment, here is one i just sent out...

To All Employees:

Over the past 2 days I witnessed many things that disturb me.

1.   Employees not at their workstation.
2.   Employees spending to much time talking
3.   Employees intentional spending far to long doing one job than what is required
4.   Using cell phones in the building, and using phones during work hours. Going into the parking lot making phone calls.
5.   Taking Smoke breaks and finding the nearest chair to sit down.
6.   Taking 10 minutes to get back to your workstation after break time.
7.   Refusing to do jobs claiming that is not what you where hired to do.
8.   Not using headphones to listen to music.
9.   Not clocking out when leaving company property.
10.   Dumping trash and food remnants in the yard.

The above 10 problems will stop immediately. You will be at your workstation working not talking. The job you are assigned will be done in an efficient, quality and timely manner. Cell phones will remain in your car not on your person. Smoking at your workstation is acceptable but stopping work to smoke is not.

Break time is from 9:00 am to 9:15 am and 3:00 pm to 3:15 pm lunch is from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm employees are to return to your workstations promptly after break and lunch time not when someone chooses to.

Refusing to do other jobs is totally unacceptable. Employees at Company are not hired for a specific job but to do any job required to ship product to a customer. Because without shipping product to a customer on time means Company will loose business and eat shipping cost.

You have been given two copies of this letter one is to be returned to the Foremen on Thursday Signed and Dated. Failure to return this signed and dated will mean a 1-day suspension

This is the Last Warning.

Hardware that is.

First The Controlers monitor blows up and go out and buy him 32in LCD wide screen (the controler is almost completely blind)

Then a couple of clients on the network bit the dusk for no reason

Had to Fix a dust collector

Had to fix a band saw and teach people how to run it because the guy we hired to operate it was a drunk and came into work drunk after being warned 3 times not to come in drunk so he got fired. So I had cut up 10,000 pounds of material in only 10 hours because customer orders are due in 6 days..

Then my Harddrive fails!!!!

Now i was going to sit down and relax to some Xbox Live time and guess what it starts doing... Freezing up in the middle of game play.[C][C]

Just got off the phone with MS tech support and its going in to be repaired :|

The hard drive on my laptop just up and stopped working this weekend

Called HP and talked to some India lady that knew nothing about computers other than what the script says

I was completely ignoring her while i was recovering the unbacked up data of the drive and told her "i did all the diagnostic stuff already and the drive has trashed"

She went on and on, I said Yes sure whatever not paying any attention to her and said yes it just returns an error

What is the Error she asked

I said i don't know it just reboots before i can write it down (although i had not done that and was to busy getting the unsaved data off) I told her, just send me a knew drive because this computer is still under warranty.

She then brings on another person named Todd (My comment in my head "if your name is Todd I'm the King of England")

He asked some more stupid question out of a script which i was ignoring and just and answered with yea sure whatever, No it just returns error messages and making a clicking noise..

after about 30 minutes of this HP sent me a new drive

The drive showed up today. Now i'm in the process of installing WinXP and copying my data over.

Just got the 2 of the 3 new servers to day and moved the Email Server to the new Hardware using W2k3 64 bit. 60 minutes of work and the old server was shut off.

Everything was working fine then i start getting this Message about DEP with gordano Emails Services LADP, POP3, List, IMAP services being stopped and sending errors.

I added these service to except list and things are working fine again.
here's the question???

I understand what DEP is and the idea of stopping execution on the heap memory but how does it work???

And what are the affects to Dynamically created code??

Every 3 years the company flips out the Server hardware come Fall it be time

So i been doing a little research catching up on hardware changes.

When doing the research dell started offering 40% discount on select servers and $1,200 off on any server over $4,000 in price. So at that price i decided to go ahead purchase the new Servers a few months early.

Its a neat article detailing one of major problems why linux is not use by the masses.

I think its stupid for linux not to allow companies to closed their drivers, This is the primary reason why linux hardware support has not improved allot over the past 3 years.

has become a matter of concern over the last several months. The virus does not today
have the capability of being passed from human to human, and no one has been able to
predict with certainty whether the virus will actually attain that capability.
Nevertheless, because the consequences that might follow such a development are so
severe, the World Health Organization, the governments of all UN Member Nations, Bell
Helicopter and Cessna Aircraft Company are taking this potential risk seriously.

We are developing plans and preparing our organization for a potential Influenza
outbreak. As a supplier to Bell Helicopter/Cessna Aircraft Company, you are a vital
part of our overall ability to ensure a continuity of supply to our customers.
Therefore, we ask that your company provide to Bell Helicopter/Cessna Aircraft Company
at: tsupernaw@cessna.textron.com (Theresa Supernaw), confirmation that you have a plan
in place to avert significant potential disruption resulting from a flu outbreak.

Attached to this letter is an example of flu preparedness, a response plan, and a
helpful planning checklist. As you discuss this with your management and your
employees, you will note that there is much to be done to get ready for a potential
outbreak. This letter is not meant to be an all-inclusive plan and will need to be
adapted to your company

too. At a minimum, we ask that you consider the following items:

Preparedness and Communication
The best way to prepare for and lessen the impact of an influenza outbreak is to focus
on improving hygiene practices. We recommend that facilities provide communication and
training to employees regarding hygiene practices to prevent the spread of infection.
These include but are not limited to:

* Washing hands frequently with soap and hot water, especially following food preparation
and after trips to the washrooms or bathrooms
* Treating hands regularly with waterless, alcohol-based hand sanitizer
* Covering the mouth when sneezing or coughing
* Avoiding live animal markets and poultry and pig farms in affected cities, countries
or regions
* Avoiding sick or dead birds
* Avoiding touching surfaces that may be contaminated
* Monitoring body for symptoms such as fever, shortness of breath, etc. if in an affected
city, area, country or region
* Obtaining a seasonal flu vaccination where possible
* Avoiding sharing of drinking cups or utensils
* Disposing of tissues, paper towels, masks and other disposables in covered containers
* Considering the implementation of guidelines requiring employees to wear gloves if they
have daily contact with other co-workers or share tools, equipment or parts
* Using disposable drinking cups
* Following careful food preparation guidelines that include separating raw meats from
cooked or ready-to-eat foods and washing hands after handling raw meat and prior to
touching or eating cooked foods

Before the Bird Flu progresses to the worst-case scenario we further recommend that you
secure and train employees to use the following supplies:

* N-95 masks
* Disposable latex or vinyl gloves
* Bleach
* Waterless, alcohol-based hand sanitizer
* Trash cans with covers or lids
* Personal thermometers
* Disposable drinking cups

Surveillance and Detection
We recommend that you establish a regular bird flu monitoring protocol. The protocol
would be managed and implemented by a coordinator. The coordinator has primary
responsibility for monitoring the status of avian flu in the city or region where the
plant is located. The coordinator should be able to answer questions about prevention
and mitigation activities. We recommend that every supplier appoint a primary and a
back-up coordinator.

Response and Containment
We request that you establish a response and containment plan. It should address the
following:

* Triggers for implementing travel and visitor restrictions
* Cleaning and disinfecting protocols in affected areas
* Criteria for taking mandatory sick leave and for quarantine as appropriate
* Alternate work force or manufacturing contingency plans
* Work-from-home plans and triggers for anyone not infected

During an outbreak, it will be critical that persons with the disease be kept separate
from those who do not have the disease.

Summary
We appreciate your attention to these important issues. We request that you confirm
via return e-mail that you have a plan in place. Please send that confirmation to

Performance MSSql vs PostgreSql [Performance MSSql vs PostgreSql]

Let me state this i don't want this to turn into a flame war. I was curious to see the difference between PostgreSql and MSSQL sense its starting look like that i will going to PostgreSql

So here is the performance difference i can see playing with a small chunk of data 35,534 records 17 megs in size so each record is about 478.42 bytes in size

What i did was load PostgresSql and SQL2005 on the host os then tested it from a VMWare machine installed on the same computer. the client tool is Foxpro 9.0 sp1. Used the ODBC connections for MSSQL and PostgreSQL

My computer hardware
p4 3.2gigahertz with hyper threading turned on
512 megs of memory
100megs network
vmware version 5.0
    guest OS WinXp Pro sp2
Host os
    Win XP pro Sp2
    PosgreSql 8.1.3
    Sql Express 2005

the first test was get all 35,534 records and looping it 5 times disconnecting the ODBC connection each time so the servers would have to build the SQL statement each time then i test it without dropping connections

Then a test where the server would have to use a adhoc index in other words sort a field that does not have an index?

I did not try to optimize the servers at all i just keep the way it is installed no changes to the config files.

I know i will get H E double hockey sticks over this but hey i wanted to see the difference between the two servers, and share it.

Right know my website is being attacked and some ahole is trying to use the correspondence page to send out spam because we do send back a copy to the customer of what the question is.

I have nearly 300 errors created in the last 5 seconds.

The sales email account has nearly 5000 emails in it in last 2 minutes.

So the question is How without making the the correspondence a pain to use like type in some random generated number and characaters in a in picture to keep this crap from happening????

I have stated a couple of times in the past the family business runs a POS erp package Syspro Encore.

So i have been looking for a replacement and may have found one calledTroll.

So the question is what can you guys tell me about PostgresSQL what are the pit falls for someone used to MSSQL. I have already downloaded PostgreSql 8.1.3 and have it running, reading through the documentation.

Its been a long time for me writing anything in C++ , I'm looking for my college text books, what are some good books to get me caught up on C++ sense i have not used it sense VS 97

And if you guys have comments on OpenMFG i'm all eyes

Am i the only one suffering from slow connection speed to the coffee house when going into threads.

the Forums show up pretty fast but when i click on a thread it takes 3 to 10 seconds depending on the number of replies.

Normally it under a second to see the pages show up..

it started to happening a couple of days ago

Yesterday my shipping guy comes into my office and tells me "we need not take any more orders or accept phones calls from Albuquerque"

i asked why what did they do not pay or something, he said no worse than that.

OK whats worse than that Shipping Guy.

Remeber the 400 lb stolen explosives?

Yes.

Well we just shipped them half of dozen items a day ok, If there to stupid to keep 400 lbs of explosives locked up, their to stupid to use our stuff.

SQL Express Managment problem [SQL Express Managment problem]

i have spent the last several hours trying to figure out why Managment Studio stopped working last night.

It turns out that SQL Books online can not be installed on the same machine with Express Managment.

This is very anoying and wasted allot time. The question running through my head is now how can i fix problems withut help files... let alone learn about all the new features [C]:$

playing around with SQL express for the last couple of days with Management Studio Express 2005. Its a vast improvement, Now creating diagrams and relationships are so easy and fixing my mistakes on length of fields for foreign keys done in 2 seconds..

Now came the time to play with Foxpro9 and SQL 2005. I tried connecting with DSNless connection and it faled. Maybe something has changed??? So open up Data sources in Control pannel to create a new connection. The Error MSG:

The Server activiley refused/denyed the connection.

Go to MS knowedge base, the only thing returned is for SQL 6.0 and 6.5. So MS is no help, go to Google again no help...

Now i'm thinking to myself what could be the problem. Maybe its the VMWare causing the problem. Turn off VMWare and disable VMWare's virtual NICs. Restart SQL still same error?????

Think to Self what can it be????? Open up SQL Config Manager. Go into Newtork setting read the help files which are almost worthless but give me an idea or two. So i start playing with the network settings and restart SQL figure out what the problem is. It turns out MS configures itself to listen on all IP's and Virtual NICs by default . Normally i'm guessing this is not a problem, But sense the HOST OS which SQL is installed on really can't listen to those Virtual NICS it must be confussing the heck out of SQL...

So i needed to turn off "Enable listen on all IPs/NICs" and enable only the IP/NIC the host OS uses and SQL server lives and it works from the VMs.
