Hi Dan, I couldn't find the cable on MS store. would you send the link to my email pls?
    Thanks.

  • Dan FernandezDan

@Martin Adhie: Hi Martin, yes, good call, for some reason, it's not in the Microsoft company store, it used to be (in fact the image on this page for Kinect accessories is exactly the product you're looking for!)

The product name is Microsoft Xbox 360 Power Supply and I've added a link to the post for how to buy it from Amazon, but I'm sure you can find it at other retailers too.

    Cheers,

    -Dan

    Hi Dan,

Thanks alot for your support and efforts,

I like gaming so much , I have Xbox and kinect , I use to VB programming before on Visual Basic, so is it gonna be easy or difficult for Me ?

    Thanks

  • It was a bit confusing at first to figure out what files to download to start following along with the series.  The confusion for me is that the link above titled "Quickstart Slides and Samples" downloads a file called KinectforWindowsSDKV1.zip.  This zip file is not the Kinect for Windows SDK V1, it is in fact the samples files, including the dependencies dlls that are referenced in the next video.

    Hi Dan,

Thanks for the great videos and examples.

Is there an easy way to develop without Kinect hardware being present and working on pre-recorded input (or some other kind of sample input) instead - perhaps by recording all input into some suitable format.

I see several cases where this could be interesting:

    1. Developing on the run (on train, bus, plane, at a café, hotel and so on) where it isn't practical to bring hardware along.

    2. Developing for specific purposes not present in the development environment (e.g. working with video of several people).
Even with the hardware present it would be better to test up against a pre-recorded input as a fixed control input. It would also remove the requirement of having actual people to act in front of the camera every single time the code needs testing.

hi dan thanks for the videos, i saw the last ones and help me with SDK beta, now with the version 1.0 i need to see the changes...one last thing, i use visual basic, ¿would you put the examples in visual basic please or send some help in visual basic for my proyects...
    thanks a lot!!

  • I believe you said something called ¨near mode¨. Is it coming with new Kinect hardware? So that's not supported by Kinect for Xbox 360?

  • Dan FernandezDan

@angelus errare: The samples are already available in Visual Basic. Just click the download link listed in each video or listed here - http://files.ch9.ms/coding4fun/KinectforWindowsSDKV1.zip

  • Dan FernandezDan

@Dan:Correct, near mode is only available with the new Kinect hardware, it is not supported for Kinect for Xbox 360. Here's a great overview of Near mode - http://blogs.msdn.com/b/kinectforwindows/archive/2012/01/20/near-mode-what-it-is-and-isn-t.aspx

  • Any idea where I can find the samples zip file? Its now a broken link...

    Server not found
Firefox can't find the server at files.ch9.ms.

@Dan: Hi Dan, I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of any UI guidelines for developing for the Kinect? I've had a look around but can't seem to find anything. Specifically I'm looking for minimum text size, button size etc. Have Microsoft produced any Guidelines/Standards for this?

  • Dan FernandezDan

Thanks for your feedback, while we currently don't have UI guidelines for Kinect, that is something we will investigate adding in a future release of the Kinect.

    Cheers,
