mvcConf 2 - Chris Zavaleta: Entity Framework "Code First": Domain Driven CRUD

Download

Right click “Save as…”

This presentation will demonstrate Entity Framework's new "Code First" functionality. Domain driven design (DDD) puts focus on the business domain with the database as an "after the fact" process. This presents an alternative approach as compared to traditional "database centric" applications. Using "code first" will allow for a rich domain model to be surfaced up to the database as “in memory” objects via a repository pattern.

Is the source code available for this demo?

Nice presentation Chris. I've always liked NHibernate's fine control over persistence mapping and we're finally getting this with EF. I looked at the code first stuff around the middle of last year but it was very early, it's encouraging to hear you're using it and it seems to be at least mature enough to warrant a more serious look now.

  • ChrisChris

Awesome man, let me know if you have any questions...

  • Chris ZavaletaChris Zavaleta

Yep, send me an email and I'll send you the source code.

  • HoltHolt

    Chris!
This is amazing.  You've really solidified my uderstanding of Code First and I'm making it my weapon of choice.  I've been "getting by" with it but this is much crisper.
Please, please, please do one of the following:
    Post your email
Post a link to the source
    Email me:
    HoltMansfield@GMail.com
I even registered at your blog and can't seem to find a way to contact you.

  • KJFKJF

    This is great...
Can you please send me the source code as well.
    Thanks in advance - Kevin

  • @Chris Zavaleta: Hi Chris. My email is jonathan_stowell@hotmail.co.uk  I've come a long way since I originally asked for the source code but will still be good to see. I'm using a lot of Inheritance and had to workout how to write the configuration classes in order to map this. Thanks, Jon

  • leonleon

Hi Chris, can you send to source code of your demo to my email? It's pretty cool, what you done there.
    Thank you much in advance

  • KevinKevin

how do you handle object inheritance? I was trying to declare inheritance using the TPH model I think is the name? I don't want to use a single table with a discriminator, but different tables for two types. I tried this with no luck.
For instance, Employee class inherits from Person... I want to have a Persons table and an Employees table with a reference to the Persons one.

    Thanks
