Azret Botash explains how they are going after the features that people say can't be done and doing them. Silverlight Spy - Visual Debugging Silverlight Applications

Koen Zwikstra has created a very useful tool for Silverlight application development called SilverlightSpy. Load the tool, point it to a web page with a Silverlight application and the dissection begins. It has a little bit funcitonality from of all of your favorite tools like Snoop, Fiddler, FireBug and Reflector but made specifically for Silverlight.

Fireworks to XAML Panel

Grant Hinkson, the Director of Experience Design at Infragistics, is a big fan of the creative tool from Adobe called Fireworks. An issue, or some people may say an opportunity, arose 3 years ago when he started to work on WPF projects. How can he use his favorite design tool with this new technology? Resourcefully, he ended up writing his own Panel for Fireworks that solved the problem.

The Fireworks to XAML Panel has since been updated to work with both WPF and Silverlight and is available for free for you to use.

A look into the ComponentOne Studio for Silverlight

During MIX09 I had the opportunity to sit down with the guys from ComponentOne and take a look at the controls available in their new Studio for Silverlight 2009 release. Along with a full-featured datagrid and richtextbox, they demoed a BitMap API and Effects running in Silverlight 2, which we had just announced for Silverlight 3. The other feature that really stood out for me was the fact that they were supporting the same themes as the Silverlight Toolkit. Even if you're using controls from different assemblies, you still want them to look cohesive and this is what theme support can provide.

Pete Brown, Silverlight Wizard in Action

Pete Brown brought along some fun toys to MIX09 written in the Silverlight 3 Beta which he demonstrates in this video. The first toy is a Commodore64 emulator running print commands and the Dr. Who game. The second toy, or in this case maybe tool would be more applicable, is his audio synthesizer which generates sound dynamically within Silverlight.

Jaime Rodriguez came back from MIX09 and thought "Hey, I bet my WPFFX library could run in the new Silverlight 3 beta". So he added a few #ifdefs, compiled and waa-laa! The WPFFX library is running in the Silverlight 3 beta and we have video to prove it.

Colaab, review and collaborate in Silverlight

Colaab is a Silverlight-based review and collaborative environment packed with features. What is a collaborative environment? Its one of those things you need, but don't quite have a name for. You could say a workflow tool but its more than that. Its a way to create and review assets with a team spread across the world. But that's not all it does.

The guys at Colaab are experimenting with how far they can push their application, as well as how far they can push Silverlight.

ASP.NET MVC 1 with Phil Haack

Phil Haack stopped by the studio last week to explain what makes this version 1 of the MVC Framework for ASP.NET and spends a little time explaining the MVC pattern. Phil then demos the scaffolding functionality which allows you to quickly build a functional website based on your existing data services.

SilverSprite - XNA Games in Silverlight

Bill Reiss is building games in Silverlight, but he also likes to build games in XNA. The obvious move then is to create a library that allows you to run XNA games within Silverlight. And no code changes to the XNA games would be ideal. That's exactly what Bill has done, and the code library's name is SilverSprite.
