I am really psyched about this interview. Mr. Myerson took time out of his very busy schedule to sit down and speak with me about the next evolution in Exchange Server--Exchange 12--due out before the end of the calendar year.

We spoke at length about the benefits our Exchange customers will derive from the 64 bit only implementation in Exchange 12, as well as Microsoft's strategic thinking around a 64 bit only version of the mail server. Terry also gave us a sneak peek into feature sets and what you can expect from Exchange 12.

In the wake of the Katrina disaster thousands of small businesses were decimated in the affected Gulf States. The Small Business Administration wanted to reach out to those businesses and make it possible for them to apply for, bid on and compete for Federal contracts. Logistically, this is normally done through online registration, but, as we know, much of the Gulf was off line after the hurricane.

In this interview we speak to David Loines of the SBA and Mike Voorhees, representing Microsoft, about the Gulf States Initiative, a program that leveraged Microsoft mobile assets to assist the SBA in getting to the folks who needed their help.

Until recently Dave managed kernel development for Windows, including Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003, and early phases of XPSP2 and Vista.  Dave is currently working on a project to release kernel sources to universities and developing ProjectOZ, an experimental environment based on the SPACE project at UC Santa Barbara, where Dave earned his PhD in Electrical & Computer Engineering.

Dave is a co-author/consultant of a Chinese textbook on operating system principles illustrated with Windows, and for the last several years has taught a short course with Prof. Kei Hiraki at University of Tokyo on Windows Internals, and spoken widely at universities on the architecture of the Windows kernel.   Prior to Microsoft, Dave's experience was primarily focused on UNIX kernels, including several years as Vice President of Software Engineering at Culler Scientific Systems.  Dave's career began in the late 1970s at Burroughs, where he was a computer architect designing hardware and writing microcode for the B1900.

In this interview we discuss the history of modern operating systems and how we got to where we are today. Dave also passionately evangelizes Windows Curriculum Resource Kit project that releases over 500,000 lines of source code of the NTOS Kernel (Windows 2003 Kernel) to Academia for education and research, which is currently available for download from the Windows Academic Alliance website.

Today marks one of the most anticipated product launches in Microsoft history. Today we launch SQL 2005 and Visual Studio 2005 and revolutionize the database world and the developer world.

In keeping with that theme here is a 20 minute interview with Bill Zack, one of the co-authors of Programming SQL 2005 due out from MS Press early 2006. We spend the first five minutes discussing Bill's many other projects including his software architects User Group in Manhattan and get into a discussion of SQL 2005 at about the 4:45 mark. Update and point of clarification: This interview was recorded about 45 days prior to launch and includes mention of database mirroring.
