Just a quick, and poorly filmed, update from the dev team on what we worked on during the last sprint and what we are building right now. Yes the filming is shoddy, and yes the screens are hard to read... we'll get better, but we didn't want to spend a lot
of time redoing this one when we know you'd rather we keep focused on developing the dev site ![]()

Just me playing around, C9 videos don't have a 'bug' like we use on 10, Edge, 8, Mix ... or an intro or anything ... and I wanted to see what it would look like if I put one on
I'm guessing you don't like it
Good video. Keep 'em coming
When is the next beta release? I want to play
I like the idea of a new C9.. but maybe we could have 2 modes. An axajy C9v3 on a v4 codebase, and a new one.. best of both worlds!
//oh, and Zippy.. I think it looks good. And your reply was a little harsh.. seriously, you could've reworded it to something less insulting towards the team.
I like the Dev Diary idea. Keep em coming.
I also like the c9 "bug".
My issue with requiring LiveID isn't privacy or tinfoil hattery, but that I find it a PITA on a number of other sites that use it, primarily because it doesn't remember my password when I tell it to. I want to log into c9 and stay logged in on the two PCs I use to post here.
this is a great feature to view. good work. keep making them.
the second live ID becomes mandatory - im gone
good work though! [y]
Any reason for that other than your usual "change is bad"?
"track your opinions"?
I'm not even sure I understand what you mean by that (I think you're implying some kind of breach of privacy), but got any proof of that?
I have a live ID, which is NOT associated to a hotmail address, and I don't see how they're using it to "track my opinions".
LiveId doesn't require hotmail since years.
like the others mentioned Live ID does not equal access to your hotmail account.
Make him look INTO the video, and not out of it, for starters. And maybe write "Channel9" to the left of him in white with a little bit of a dropshadow directly beneath the text, x = 1px, y = 1px - will probably look much better.
Also, Lego Star Destroyer. [Y]
Water Cooler == test data. There's also a "Forum 2". We're very original (like my other test data in the video).
Way to encourage morale.
Anyway, I wonder what kind of things you guys are thinking of that possibly maybe sometime could happen for Live ID accounts. If it has anything to do with messenger contacts, scratch that idea until the Live ID team figures out a way to change the Live ID for your messenger account.
I'm curious to see what you guys will have done with the Wiki, by the way. I think that's a sadly underused feature of the site right now.
We used CodePlex's wiki code so it will be a lot more reliable than what's on C9 today. Our UI follows the same patterns as the rest of the site (AJAX paging through versions, AJAX editing, etc). Sampy could tell you more about linking to pages and all that jazz. FYI, the wiki feature is done.
seriously it shouldn't be that hard
I can't believe you still haven't even got a bare minimum Quote button that just about any other decent forum setup has implemented that drops in the tags to allow the user to copy paste text and reply underneath each one
and only being able to reply to one person.. stupid really.. at least vbulletin does it right.. and gives you full topic review underneath the reply box.. so you don't have to open up the topic in another tab
Wait... then what have I been using to quote people all these years?
a single button next to the one person you quoting.. yeh great.. now I want to quote someone else and reply to that.. should I now post this and go make another post within this thread.. no because that would be retarded when I could just make all my replies to others posts within one reply.. instead I'd have to now manualy write out the tags including "[quote user="user"]" etc .. if you still dont 'get it' on what I'm getting at then I'm wasting my time replying to you.
When you open the reply editor, it doesn't take you to a new page and it doesn't disable the EntryList above. You can page through the entire thread with out having to leave the page. Sure you can only target your reply at a single post but you can see all of them.
I think a wiki demo may be in order for this week's video.
Nice talking to you too!
Enjoyed the vid, though I had some problems reading the screen.
I presume you are talking about the new, improved version, right?
And the newer version will allow for 'treed' replies? And selected text quoting?
Is there a way to change your existing live id to a different live id - if you prefer another and keep your same c9 profile and history?
TIA
Not at the moment. We know we'll have to implement that at some point though.
When v4 launches, sign in with your forms password and then add the desired Live ID just like I showed in the video.
Sorry, staceyw. I read your post wrong. I thought you were just asking about changing your Live ID association (in general). As Sampy mentions...your scenario is covered. When you sign in that first time to move over, your old Live ID will be written over by your new one for your C9 account.
Sorry to beat this down, but want to make sure. I have existing LiveID staceyw@zzz that I use for c9 (not form id). I want to switch to LiveID william@zzz. So your saying I should be able to do that? Thanks much in advance.
Yesterday, I did just that and saw the "Profile" option for the first time.
Since then....nada.
Is it possibly because I login automatically when I go to the site through the feeds links?
In other words, how do I get the "Profile" option back?
Yes and no... if you have a userid and password on C9 now (in addition to your Live ID) then yes, you could switch. If you don't, then no we don't provide the ability to switch. Having seen this featured asked for and then eventually added to Xbox Live though, I can understand that it is useful to many people.
We will add it to our list, and I expect we will add it in the future.
The code I showed in the video isn't live yet so you can't actually try it
OpenID has what Channel 9 concerns in subject of threat controls on Internet security. Identity management is long term efforts which business groups expend for building Internet communication, and OpenID is a model of an authentication application provider.
Could you mind to surpass Live ID authentication services under Phishing controls with care of customer education for rest of Internet people? Your advancing developers say benefits Microsoft Live Web services consumers, and moreover industrial security training for rest of billions Internet business developers. Microsoft is a consumer of OpenID, and being wise with given subject of Live ID authentication.
