Hi Laura and Paul, I was going to comment on the last episode, but as usual, I ended up following the links to the stories and checking both of your tweets and then eventually I kind of forgot what I was going to say.

One thing I was going to comment on was the Perfecting the 3D human face story and how it kinects (yes, I'm using that as a verb) with Kinect Fusion and other things and here today you talk all about it; there were definitely great ideas mentioned. The possibilities seem endless to me.

Virtual interior design

Planning renovations

Trying on clothes

Augmented reality games. When I was a kid I would have loved a 3D mountain road to toy cars around and imagined racing around in the air with planes and GI Joes and so on. How awesome would it be to have your imagination projected into your own movie in that way?

Communication - modeling of all kinds for communication overall is the killer app for the Kinect. When making basic 3D movies becomes more and more commonplace it will change communication forever. Suddenly we will be able to really teach and learn and communicate with 3D interactive movies. We will also be able to communicate complex ideas with AR models, and it will be used for training of all kinds of skills. We will build better and better tools to manipulate 3D models, in 3D space via AR. Any 3D modelling program developer out there must be drooling at the chance to use the Kinect as a modelling tool for the masses. Art is going to have a huge role to play and become even more important.

3D printers are going to be a huge market and will become as common as a computer because of this. Everyone will have one in 10 years. Printing toys and models first, then electronics, then more and more complex electronics including OLEDs, silicone or graphene (from sugar in cookies or any other source of carbon, like garbage) chips and even chips with quantum wells ... see Intel Claytronics (Programmable Matter)

Minecraft could actually be used to build an 3D printable computer with mechanical user interfaces and/or analog/digital hybrids once we can print 3D electronics. This Channel9 video where Brian Beckman mentions the U.S. Navy fire control system - which is an analog computer - made me first think about making 3D interfaces for computers with 3D printers. I imagine an electronic version of Now with seeing how people make computers in Minecraft and how we can print Minecraft objects with 3D printers, and how Kinect can be used to model things so easily then I see a big integration possibility with the concepts if not the actual Minecraft, for industrial design. If you substitute Minecraft fire for a tiny power source and can print OLEDs in 3D, and if it could please be touch sensitive and have a super high resolution and move and change shape ...

...

...

Holodeck.

"Hot Searches" actually sounds like a good idea. I think there are indeed way too many people who do not know to search. They need to be taught. It's either that or you learn by trial and error and that's not good for something that has become a core life skill.

posted by Richard.Hein

You now, what someone needs to do with the KinectFusion is mount a Kinect on the car and drive around town with it and map their city. It's a bummer the depth field on the Kinect isn't very powerful beyond the size of a living room.

I work as a developer in the civil engineering space and I was trying to get the group that is typically responsible for digital environment recreation to take a look at doing this with a Kinect nearly on the day the OpenNI framework showed up on the internet. The usage of the idea for engineering purposes are completely endless, but the cameras on the Kinect itself is too weak and would need to be improved.

In a different direction all together would be icing on the cake to investigate the miniaturization of the Kinect depth system for usage on mobile devices (yeah like a cellphone). If that happens I demand to be employed by MS so I can help in some sort.

So, who's the Kinect Fruit Ninjas out there beside me? I need ninja competition. Btw, does anyone know why Fruit Ninja doesn't have Mangosteen in the game? It's the "Queen of Fruit"!

On the suggested games:

Kinect Kong

Kinect-the-dots (hahahaha)

Kinect-Four

Kinect-Feather (some sort of weird bird game where the player is a bird).
