I'm thinking that I would participate more if a question was formulated and posted after a topic (doesn't have to be every topic).  Because certain news can run in so many directions (making it tougher to start commenting) I think it would help to give us a more defined starting point.

Although I can speak and write English decently, English is my second language and creative writing isn't my strength.  It takes time to write, so I'm wondering how many of the viewers are international viewers who would like to participate but have a time constraint.  Having viewers take a poll on some of the questions might help with this and also provide additional useful data for the show.

For example in Poland, if I type in google "tablica" hoping to find the portal "tablica.pl" which is a notice-board type portal (you post an annoucement that you have something to give/sell/trade etc.) you won't find it anywhere in the results. You will find an android app for the portal, but not the portal itself.

Bing gives it at the top. There are more examples, but I would have to dig in my memory a bit to remember them.

But still - I find google more reliable when looking for programming-related information. And Bing is very cropped in Poland, just the basic features.

Laura, speaking on the Episode 100 9guys I still haven't received mine yet

I don't really comment on YouTube or any other video sites, just on channel 9 as this is really more of a discussion forum where you do encourage feedback.

Just kiddin', I agree with Laura, I don't comment unless I have something pressing. I feel like it's a waste of typing.

On the other hand, I watch every week; a better way to track metrics might be to see how many of the same visitors watch the same shows weekly, i.e. loyal followers/subscribers.

I bought an iPhone for my son, during my staying in WA. After seeing my Nokia 920 from the Build Conference, he now wants to get a Windows phone. We only have 3G around here in Brazil, no 4G yet, but Internet access is at least twice as faster in the Windows Phone than in the iPhone (4s). Screen size and battery life are also much better. And, of course, the hability to develop programs for Windows 8 in VS 2012 is priceless. The Apple 'intuitive' interface is not on par with Windows 8 Phone. It looks dated and it lacks the modernity of the W8 Phone interface.

The only problem I noiced in my Nokia 920 set is that it gets quite warm after a few minutes of Internet navigation. It looks like the processor is overheating a little.

Not too impressed with the approach on Google. Bing does indirectly do the same thing through shopping.com, and well these consumer watchdog issues should be handled through the consumer watchdog non partial channels.

You know, us oldtimers still like the rich client downloaded contente.

I only use Internet Explorer. As a rich client application developer I say "Internet Explorer rocks!". If only Microsoft (Internet Explorer, .NET, WPF, Windows Phone) loved IE as I do, there would be better support for managed developers to develop amazing desktop applications.

This is a good suggestion.  We are pretty free-form on this show... so it may take some planning for us to have a specific question to throw out for a good discussion, but worth a shot.

That would be a good metric... of people who are logged in, how many unique accounts watch each episode? And how many episodes of a series are watched per account?

I saw a Nokia Lumia 920 a couple weeks ago. Definitely an improvement in many regards over the HTC Trophy I have... but it felt large. Specifically it felt heavy and a bit bulky. This is also coming from a guy with fairly big hands. I couldn't imagine using it with smaller hands. I heard some new HTC model is pretty good... perhaps the 8X?

I do agree that this channel isn't impartial. Though, I think it is an important thing to keep an eye on... I respect Google a lot. I think companies need to be called out when they deviate from expected behavior or don't have a consistent amount of transparency (e.g. all results being sponsored).

In order to leave a comment you have to create an account and then you have to log in.  If you have a live account and are running Windows 8, you click on sign in and you are done.  However, if you don't you have establish one etc etc etc.....

When I get home from work I want to see what I missed during the day because I was in my cave at work crunching .NET Code building intranet sites and not allowed to ping Channel 9 cause of company firewall.  My brain is set on SCAN mode looking for things that interest me, but I am honestly not in the mood to argue or say "HEY GREAT Video"....whatever..(except today  ). This is what I don't understand.  Microsoft is such a great company that  innovates and creates these awesome technologies like ASP.NET, and all these Web Tools.  So how about you guys freaking use them???  I mean....Channel 9 looks okay, but come ON!!! You guys could do sooooo much better!!!! Get rid of Silverlight as the primary video delivery vehicle and make it HTML 5, you could still give options to render in other plugins, flash, SIlverlight...whatever, but try to catch the generic audience who is immediately turned off if they hit channel 9 site for the first time and they get some message about them needing some plugin called Silverlight?!!?!ll  Silverwhat?!?!?!

This post is not intended to pick on the Ping show or Channel 9, I think you guys provide a great service, but I believe you can do 10 times better in the way you deliver the content...For crying out load...you guys are Microsoft!!!!   I am posting these comments as a person who uses Microsoft Technologies, a .NET C# ASP.NET MVC developer who has taken 15-20 minutes of his precious time to give you my side of the story and how I see things. Break the chains that bind you and UNLEASH THAT GREAT POTENTIAL!!

1. You don't have to sign in to comment on a video, just type your comment, name and email address and click 'Comment', done. We definitely are trying to avoid any barriers to people commenting.
2. Silverlight is only used if you don't have HTML 5 support or if you already have Silverlight installed. Hit Channel 9 with a machine that doesn't have Silverlight and boom, you get HTML 5. If you don't have Silverlight, are using a browser that supports HTML 5 *and* you get a Silverlight message, let me know ... that is definitely not the way we designed it to work.
3. Totally agree about making the site more mobile friendly. We should do that and hopefully we will be able to do it sooner rather than later.

@Duncanma: Thanks for the reply.  My comments were based on what I have heard others say in the past in regards to Channel 9 videos.  I mentioned Silverlight because that is one of the primary reasons why the site had been blocked in my workplace a while back(I will bring up HTML 5 capability on our next meeting and see if they open it up again)  I love Microsoft, it allowed me to have the career have today, but like anything....there is always room for improvement....and there is always that web developer out there that is a critic , not necessarily because he/she dislikes Microsoft, but because they care about the community and they see great potential in Microsoft.

@Duncanma, thank you for all you do for us, am sure you don't get many kudus/credit for all the work you put into Channel 9. Please let us know when Channel 9 is more mobile friendly.

Nice tip, I have never noticed that before. Mine was always set to auto and it seems to work just fine on my mobile without doing anything.

Yeah, it should fallback to HTML 5 without doing anything, but if you want to *force* it to HTML 5 you can use the drop down under the player (which basically just appends the query string for you)

One of the reasons is that I generally watch the show after a few days it's been up, mostly because I don't notice, and by the time I do commenting would feel like resurrecting an old thread.

Maybe it's just me, but it might help if you could make the placeholder pictures that get posted on the C9 homepage a little more distinctive: as things are now it's kind of difficult to tell them apart.
