Building a SharePoint Development Machine Using the Easy Setup Script

Download

Right click “Save as…”

SharePoint Easy Setup Script is a new tool released by Chris Johnson and Paul Stubbs to help you set up a SharePoint 2010 developer machine without requiring Hyper-V. The Easy Setup script will set up the machine, either as a native install or on a bootable VHD file. In order to make this process as easy as possible, we have created a series of PowerShell scripts that automate the entire process of building a fully running and ready-to-go SharePoint 2010 environment. The scripts are highly configurable, but out of the box they will download all of the required software and install all of the SharePoint prerequisites as well as other software such as Visual Studio and Office. The script will then install and configure SharePoint 2010 and, finally, the script will provision a site.

  • Can this script be used on Windows Server 2008 R2?  I like building Dev VMs on that OS to allow more isolation/customization of the host enviroment.

    Thanks

  • Oops!  I asked my question befoere I finished the video.  Although the question about WS2008R2 wasn't directly answered, the fact that they are working on an update that targets WS2008R2, it sounds like the current version may have issues on that OS.

    Still looks like a great tool!

  • Can you post an example of PS scripts using downloaded files from MSDN?

    I'll have to give this a try as well.  Recently, I've been enjoying the flexibility of AutoInstaller which includes a xml file to configure your whole sharepoint deployment.  its on codeplex http://bit.ly/kkautospinstaller-codeplex

    Hi,
    My SP Easy install failed after successfully mounting the vhd and gave me this message:
    Error: Could not find a part of the path 'Z:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start
    Menu\Programs\Startup\SpEasy Startup.lnk'.

    Here are my VHD locations:

    <vhd setupPath=”x:\Win7Ult.vhd” bootDesc=”SP Easy”>
    <File path=”c:\VHD\Win7.vhd” />

    Could my upgraded Win7 Home Premium to Ultimate be the problem?

    This is a great script and time saver. I hope I can learn what I am doing wrong. Any help is greatly appreciated
    Thanks,
    Rodney

    This is really cool! Can you also create an EasySetup script to install FAST (for SharePoint) because it is giving me a serious headache.
