I had one person who forwarded it to someone else in the company who wrote me and asked why I use their company name as my email address. They thought I might be trying to spoof people into thinking I was affiliated with their company.

posted by LarryLarsen

I'm connecting to two virtual machines in my company via RDP (VM1 and VM2). VM1 is working great all the time. VM2 one day disconnected me. It just closed the RDP session and denied any connection with me (eg. ping). The same happened the next day when I was working from home on a different computer via VPN. When I looked into the event log I saw this: "The Terminal Server security layer detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the client. Client IP: [my ip]". What is it and how to get into diagnosing it? I found many hints on how it could be fixed but I'm more interested in diagnosing because it happens only with VM2 - other machines don't think I'm a security issue so maybe there's something wrong with VM2. If it's of any help, VM2 is a Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with Active Directory, IIS, SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise, SharePoint 2010, Visual Studio 2012 (yeah, I know... too much stuff for 4 gig of RAM) and smtp4dev, no other network services were installed (other than default Windows Server stuff like RDP).

posted by siodmy
