  • I had to smile when Larry talked about having a domain and using [website_name]@domain.com when signing up at websites.  I've been doing the same thing for 10 years.  Smiley

It's always interesting when interacting with a human (customer support on the phone, or a point-of-sale employee), because they always seem to pause on my email address seeing their own company name in it.  Usually they just continue on, but sometimes a little explanation is in order.

I did get a "cease and desist" letter from one company, claiming my email address was a trademark violation.  I had to write them back twice to say the email didn't technically exist before they stopped sending letters.

@Yakko Warner: LOL! I know, I get the same thing. I had one person who forwarded it to someone else in the company who wrote me and asked why I use their company name as my email address. They thought I might be trying to spoof people into thinking I was affiliated with their company. Smiley

  • I'm connecting to two virtual machines in my company via RDP (VM1 and VM2). VM1 is working great all the time. VM2 one day disconnected me. It just closed the RDP session and denied any connection with me (eg. ping). The same happened the next day when I was working from home on a different computer via VPN. When I looked into the event log I saw this: "The Terminal Server security layer detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the client. Client IP: [my ip]".  What is it and how to get into diagnosing it? I found many hints on how it could be fixed but I'm more interested in diagnosing because it happens only with VM2 - other machines don't think I'm a security issue so maybe there's something wrong with VM2. If it's of any help, VM2 is a Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with Active Directory, IIS, SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise, SharePoint 2010, Visual Studio 2012 (yeah, I know... too much stuff for 4 gig of RAM) and smtp4dev, no other network services were installed (other than default Windows Server stuff like RDP).

So many fond memories of xcom. Picked it up again on a Steam sale for like $3 a couple of years ago and played it through again. Really happy to hear this update stays true to the original.

Guess I know what I'm doing this weekend.

  • @Larry, you get serious cred for the XCOM pick.
