Corporate Vice President of Global Foundation Services, Debra Chrapaty, is in charge of a worldwide team that runs the foundation servers for Microsoft’s data centers, networks, infrastructure and server architecture as part of our software + services strategy. Charles and Jennifer, in their on-going WM_IN Technology journey, talk to this energetic, dynamic, smart woman who fulfilled her childhood dream of being on the cover of Information Week (read geek). She used to be the CTO for the National Basketball Association (NBA) . . . and that’s just the beginning of where this successful woman gets interesting. Check it!

This was a really interesting interview.  It's good to hear that the MS VPs get along.

The story of how Debra navigated her career to become a corporate VP is really worth listening to.

    My favorite bit is this:

Jennifer:  What were you hired in as?  Director, GM, VP...?
    Debra:  Corporate VP.
Ah, you're smiling ... how did I do that?
    laughter
    Jennifer:  Pray tell!
    Charles: Yeah ...
    more laughter
Debra (serious):  Because I am one.  Cool

  • Great Interview! Smiley

Sending an e-mail out to everyone on your team each week is a great idea that I wish more executives and managers would  emulate.

    Cool

After this interview, both Jennifer and I wanted to go work for Debra! What a great leader. I hope she rises through the ranks to become our first (dare I say it) CEO! Yeah.

    Rock on, Debra.

Although playing fill-in-the-missing-word is fun, I think I'll just assume you missed out a "woman" somewhere in there.

Although I'm sure there are alternatives which would fit just as well.

Or is MS operating rudderless at the moment Tongue Out
  • Really enjoyed this interview.  Especially the section when you all talked about Datacenters and measuring them in megawatts instead of square feet.
I wish there was more information on the MS datacenters to help counter the whole Google rocks!!!! and their datacenter is teh b0mb!!!!

    Very very smart woman...

  • Very inspiring interview. She sounds very approachable and truly cares about her people.
  • MinhMinh WOOH!  WOOH!
Is Debra still w/ MS? Because the video seems to have been pulled.
