Good video, like to hear the little history in the beginning. I'm definitely going to have to spend some more time looking into WebMatrix.
Two things: First, you have two #5 episodes for Web Camps TV, the helpers video and the jquery code commit video.
Second, highly recommend watching the Rifftrax (MST3K guys) version of Plan 9 From Outer Space. Absolutely hilarious (on top of an already hilariously bad movie).
@Raiven: yes aware of the #5 thing, backstory - I've been waiting for a while to post the jQuery video so it was originally number 5. Episode #5 came and went and then when it was time to post the jQuery vid, i forgot to update the number
will make the change soon.
I'm still convinced you will need a small free hosting suply for student and hobby programmers. The main reason I never really build a website in ASP.NET when I was young was because I knew there was now way to get my creation out there.
There are so many free PHP hosters and html hosters. Why not set up a "DreamSpark" hosting project? Provide students with 50mb of storage on a server capable of running RAZOR syntax.
We have a project comming up in school, and the reason we will not be working with ASP.NET is because ones the project is done, we can't really show it off anywhere.
@CKurt: right now all the hosters that support WebMatrix are free. We are also working with hosters on providing free/cheap hosting for students and hobbyists.
Dude, Firefox??? I understand test cases with different browsers, but Firefox as default browser in MS, that looks BAD!!!
@Azebro: careful or you'll get Erik fired
@Azebro: I'm waiting for IE 9.
I agree on this. Although discountdotnet is actually pretty cheap, I still hope something like this for the general public. And once we build it, probably some kind of tutorial about migrating to paid hosts.
Feedback, please refresh the page if it has been modified elsewhere. I sometimes use VS and when I come back, WebMatrix is having the old version. What is worse is it saves all the open files, thus, my works in VS are gone.
And, when can we have VS:E reading cshtml and auto-format? If WebMatrix can do VS:E I will stay with WebMatrix. But, at this point, VS:E is better for me.
Is there an exemple of the Admin Package use within the beta 2 ?
edit : sorry , i did not understand how you access the admin , just type _Admin after the webmatrix site adress
I agree with remarks concerning hosting for students and else...
nice episode .
@magicalclick: hear you on that one
@ante_marcus: check out my screencast for a use of NuPack in WebMatrix: http://channel9.msdn.com/Blogs/jsenior/Get-Windows-Azure-Storage-working-in-WebMatrix-in-3-minutes
gosh, so much changes, my sites is all broken now. Are we going to have such large changes in the future. My site is small, but, this is kind of scary when everything from webmail, db, layout, pages.... all different now.
I did not realise the current hosters were free for the bèta period. But indeed it's great to hear you are working on very cheap small hosting providers. I tought it might be something that could be set up via Windows Azure zo scale easily to serve lots of free accounts, but indeed microsoft needs to work with it's hosting partners and value those partnerships.
@magicalclick: You can check out the ReadMe. It goes over all the changes from Beta 1 to Beta 2. To answer your question about frequency of changes, there are no new features (other than updates to /_Admin) or changes from Beta 2 to RTW.
