This podcast was recorded at TechEd Europe in November 2009. I get a chance to sit down with Mike Flasko, Program Manager in the Data Services team. We had both presented on Entity Framework during the conference which is where we started the discussion
before we moved on to talk about Data Servies and some of the announcements around Data Services, RIA and WCF which would be happening the following week at PDC.

Navigating through the hypes, Software architectures and patterns to help avoiding your projects to crash. (Dutch)

When it comes to .Net software development, more and more frameworks enter the market. Both from Microsoft and in open source. Just think of all the very useful frameworks, such as ASP.NET MVC, Castle, WF, Entity Framework, Unity, Linq2SQL, ADO.NET Data
Services, WCF, nHibernate, Spring.NET, CSLA, NUnit, Enterprise Library or ADF. Once a project chooses to apply one or more frameworks, trouble begins. What if you require additional features that aren’t implemented in the framework? What if you decide that
another framework would have been better and want to switch halfway your project? What if the author of your favorite open source framework suddenly stops developing? What if the framework contains bugs or omissions? And what if a new version of the framework
is released that is implemented totally different? These and many more everyday problems will cause your project to come to a halt, or at least make you perform serious refactoring. During this highly interactive talk Sander Hoogendoorn, principal technology
officer at Capgemini, chief architect of Capgemini’s agile Accelerated Delivery Platform, and member of Microsoft’s Visual Studio Advisory Board, will demonstrate pragmatic software architectures and patterns that will help your projects to stay away from
framework problems, and how to keep your code independent of framework choices. In his well known slightly ironic style Sander will present different models of layered architectures, and explain and use bridge patterns, managers, dependency injection, descriptors,
and layer super-types. Of course, the speaker will illustrate these insightful patterns with lots of demo’s and (bad) code examples using blocks from Microsoft’s Enterprise Library, nHibernate, Log4Net, and the Entity Framework. Delegates will benefit from
this talk by learning how to improve the structure and quality of their software architecture and code, and how to avoid the pitfalls of applying frameworks to .Net software development.

In this episode of 10-4, we discuss a new feature coming in the next release of ADO.NET Data Services: server-driven paging. This allows you to constrain the size of result sets that can be requested by clients, eliminating potentially problematic scenarios.
In addition, clients can also now request the total count of an entity set, without having to retrieve its data in entirety.

Fastest To Market: RAD Web Applications with ASP.NET Dynamic Data and Entity Framework

For some applications, time to market is simply critical. If your application is heavily-data driven and backed by a well-designed database schema, you could help yourself a lot be looking at the dynamic duo of ASP.NET Dynamic Data and the ADO.NET Entity
Framework. Together, these two technologies allow you to build data driven websites ... quicker than anytime before. In this session, Ingo Rammer will show you how to combine the flexibility of ASP.NET with these new features for quickly building data-driven
web sites. (And yes, it even allows you to simply embed a few RAD pages in your big, existing ASP.NET application).

<itunes:summary>For some applications, time to market is simply critical.

Northeast Roadshow - Silverlight with WCF, WCF REST, and ADO.NET Data Services

Once the initial allure of the cool graphics and animation capabilities of Silverlight has passed, you’ll probably say to yourself, "Hey, my app needs data too!" Well, this session delivers on that – not once, not twice, but thrice! We’ll look at accessing
remote data services from Silverlight using a standard SOAP-based WCF service, then graduate to creating and consuming a RESTful service via the WCF REST Starter Kit, and end by accessing an Entity Framework model fronted by an ADO.NET Data Service.
Fully functional demo code is
available at Code Gallery for those of you that want to tinker with the application as you watch the screen cast.

<itunes:summary>For years, you have heard about the benefits of using Stored Procedures to access your database. In this screencast, Rob Bagby will illustrate the default behavior of the Entity Framework when dealing with actions such as insert, update and delete. Rob
will then discuss some concerns you may have and how you can address these by mapping in action stored procedures.

You can read the blog post about this subject here. Rob will illustrate how to import select stored procedures in another deCast.

deCast - Entity Framework Modeling: Implementing Table Per Type

The Entity Framework provides the ability to model rich conceptual layers that meet the needs of our applications. One such model is table-per-type inheritance. In this model, each entity is mapped to a distinct table in the store. Each table contains
all of the properties for the entity, as well as a key that maps ultimately to its' root table / entity. In this screencast, Rob Bagby will illustrate how to implement table-per-type inheritance with the entity framework.
