CES 2010: Microsoft Booth PCs

Inside the Microsoft booth at CES is a row of computers that we call Muscle Beach. These are some of the latest PCs from partners that will be coming out over the next year. I'm really impressed this year with some of the forward thinking features hardware
companies are coming out with, like the dual monitor netbook shown here. My favorite had to be the Pegatron slate though. This device shown in the keynote has an 11.6" screen with an Atom processor, 1GB RAM and 32GB HDD. It's so light and portable, it would
be perfect to carry around the house for reading and remoting into the other PC's around my house via Mesh. With so many different types of devices, there's something for everyone.

Sean Butterworth stopped by the Microsoft booth and gave me a look at the new Microsoft Arc Keyboard, the mate to the Arc Mouse. I'm a

huge fan of the Arc Mouse (cnet review
here) mainly because it's portable enough to keep in my bag or even in a front pocket. This new keyboard looks equally nice. It's small, thin, and portable enough that it will be a great addition to my slate tablets when on the go. The USB dongle is even
smaller than the Arc Mouse dongle, so once you plug it in you probably won't need to unplug it as there is very little profile coming off the USB port.

CES 2010: Microsoft's Arc Keyboard

Sean Butterworth stopped by the Microsoft booth and gave me a look at the new Microsoft Arc Keyboard, the mate to the Arc Mouse. I'm a huge fan of the Arc Mouse (cnet review here) mainly because it's portable enough to keep in my bag or even in a front pocket. This new keyboard looks equally nice. It's small, thin, and portable enough that it will be a great addition to my slate tablets when on the go. The USB dongle is even smaller than the Arc Mouse dongle, so once you plug it in you probably won't need to unplug it as there is very little profile coming off the USB port.

With CES coming up, Entertainment and Devices President Robbie Bach invited me over to talk about where we're at and where we're going, and what consumers will be interested in this year. We also talk about Natural User Interfaces and what it means for
both Microsoft and the consumer. We'll be talking to other Microsofties this week about the consumer space and the things Microsoft is doing to extend the way we interact with our devices.

CES 2010: NUI with Bill Buxton

For many, Natural User Interface (NUI) is a new term, but over the past few years it's become an incredibly important one to Microsoft. If you want to know what we're thinking when it comes to computing in the future, you have to know NUI. So we go right

Bill Buxton, author of Sketching User Experiences.

Occasionally I read a comment in articles about Windows 7 Multitouch where a hater says "I'm not going to hold my arms up to my screen all day, I'd be sore", we know that. But I can't tell you how nice it is to be in a meeting, see an email come up and being
able to touch it to open and flick to scroll through the pages. The idea is that we want to give users the best modality of UI for any given interaction.

So watch as I quiz Bill on where NUI fits and what it means going forward.
