Next, at [11:55] the team walks through an installation of Hyper-V Server 2012 using Windows 8 Client Hyper-V, taking advantage of the lightweight installation package and small storage footprint. Symon then uses RDCMan to manage a new Hyper-V Server 2012 host and discusses some password management features. Then, Rick talks about the GUIless configuration options used to join the Hyper-V Server to the domain, and also discusses different GUI-based remote management options.

Symon then [16:20] installs the iSCSI Software Target, creates an iSCSI target and virtual disks, and connects both hosts to the target through their iSCSI initiators. Next, the team uses PowerShell to initialize and format the newly created iSCSI disks. The team then [28:25] switches to using RSAT for remote server management of the Hyper-V hosts from a Windows 8 laptop. After connecting to the hosts, they install the Failover Clustering feature and being to build the cluster. After validating the Hyper-V hosts and iSCSI storage, the team ends the demo by creating a Failover Clustering.

The conversation then focuses on Hyper-V migration between clusters and different options to move your VMs between different versions. At [11:30] Rob demos a VM migration from a Windows Server 2008 R2 cluster to a Windows Server 2012 cluster. In this demo, all the VMs are running on Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV) and we describe how to remap the virtual networks for the VMs when they move to a different set of hosts. Finally, Rob shows the actual migration and how to minimize the downtime for the VMs while they are transferred to the new cluster. At [00:10] Symon meets with Jeff Woolsey, a Principal Program Manager Lead for Windows Server Hyper-V, to discuss the new virtualization features just released in Windows Server 2012. First, Jeff defines the goals for Hyper-V virtualization in its third release and covers some of the features providing greater scale, network virtualization, and storage virtualization. Next, they talk about the live migration technology and how it has been improved in this release in order to provide more resiliency while supporting an unlimited number of simultaneous live migrations. Jeff then talks about the new types of live migration introduced in this release, including live migration over SMB connections, storage live migration, and "shared nothing" live migration. At [20:20] Jeff shows a demo of a "shared nothing" live migration in which he moves a running VM between two standalone servers with no downtime. Finally, Jeff talks about how System Center 2012 SP1 Virtual Machine Manager takes advantages of these new capabilities and shows a second demo at [25:45].
